    Default Prefold to prefitted...a pictoral...

    OK Here we go!
Cut a half moon shape out of each side. You can make the moon as small or as large as you want.

There may be a little overlap where the middle "guts" stick out into the sides. Cut the extra layers out.

You only want 4 layers when sewing the elastic.
Start on 1 end and put your needle through the fabric and the elastic. I used lastin, but regular elastic works fine.
Using a zig-zag stitch (3 step is better, but regular zig-zag is fine too) stitch down and backstitch. DO NOT pull on the elastic until it is sewn in and backstitched.

Pull on elastic while sewing down the side. Elastic should be between the 4 layers.
    Should look something like this

Finish the sides as you wish- serging is best, but zig-zag or overlock stitch is fine too. ;)
Here is an infant prefitted. Isnt' it cute!

You are sew clever. Not only can you sew but you can also upload or download photos as well. My lastin does not look like that, it is almost see through and super stretchy, is it the same stuff? How do you know how tight to pull it, I mean how long a piece do you use to do one side? Do you always have to hide the elastic in the layers, ie when I tried to do a pocket, I just sewed the elastic to the top fleece layer, not in between so when I flipped it rightside out it is then hidden. But I don't think the elastic is tight enough as it is and the legs gap open. Am I using too much elastic, not enough stretch?

Huh. I may have to try that.

    Where can I order lastin?

ETA: Did you dye the prefold yourself? What kind of dye did you use?

Ah, okay, now that makes more sense! So the question that I and the pp have is where can we get elastin? I think I might actually be able to do this! :)

Yeah, uhm Shandelle, is there anyway that I can do this without a sewing machine? I'm sewing-challenged. Ha ha!! Thanks for the pictoral though. Great job & I love the yummy green color.

question: do you catch the elastic with the serging? or do you ensure that you do NOT catch any of the elastic in the serging? i might have to go make one right now...
Liza has been hangin' around this board for six years.

My sons are 4 and 6. And they are very loud.

    Default What size prefold?

Can you do this to an infant prefold as well as regular and premium? Do you do this to all your prefolds? I think my DH will be anti prefolds, so I was going to purchase extra kissaluvs. I may not now if I can turn infant prefolds into prefitteds

DS is due in 2 weeks, I may not be able to manage the sewing, but my mum will be visiting and she's a sewing whiz - she could definitely work it out from your pictures and teach me so I can do more. She's made the most amazing/realistic quilt of an underwater scene inlcuding scuba diver, fish, kelp etc with matching crib skirt, and curtains.

If we can't work it out, I may contact you about making some. This is such a clever idea. Thanks for sharing.

Yes- the one in the pic is an infant prefold. :D It's so cute and tiny!
I did dye the PF, with procion dyed from dharmatrading.com
Don't catch the elastic w/ the serging. If you do, it's OK, there will be no "ruffle" though...

Can you still adjust the prefitted - for eg. fold the front down if there's extra fabric? We're have a boy and a little extra in the pee zone will be helpful.
Thanks again for all of this.
