Default Leak-proof container for milk for child's lunch?

I know some here like SIGG bottles, Kleen Kanteen, FUNTainer, and such.

Anyway, I am tired of our standard sippy cups leaking in the lunchbox and want an alternative. Regular thermos or leak-proof plastic sippy cups are ok too. The cups will be used for milk 75% of the time. Is there anything bad about milk in an aluminum or stainless steel container? Seems odd to me for no particular reason. The cups don't have to retain cold, since I always pack an ice pack in lunchboxes. It just has to not leak and be appropriate for kids age 3 year and up (i.e. no soft spouts and good sized).

i found this informal comparison and testing, I stumbled on a site (http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/05/si...ree-sippy.html). Just wanted more info. and alternatives.

When my DS wanted milk in his lunch we bought the Horizon Juice box style/ single serving milk and he likes them! It made it easy for me!

We used the Playtex "Insulator Sport" flip-top insulated cups this year at preschool, as milk is required by our school. While the Horizon milk is a good idea, at a $1 a box at our Whole Foods it just didn't make much financial sense. I looked at alternatives, but SIGG bottles aren't dishwasher safe and I thought they might get gunked by milk, and the Kleen Kanteen are just too large for a lunchbox--maybe they make smaller ones now, but I couldn't find anything in the 8oz range.

FWIW, I bought the tiny brushes they sell for Dr. Brown's bottles for cleaning the straws.

I've seen Horizon single serves at Costco. Don't remember how much it was the last time we bought it...

~$12 a case. They have chocolate and also vanilla, but no plain milk.

Yes - I've seen chocolate & vanilla there. Around $12 also for what I think is an 18-pack. They also have single-serve Silk soymilks.

Edited b/c I got carried away with my "I think"s

Klean Kanteen does have a 12oz that would work. No straw tops, unfortunately. We use the screw-on tops (my older DD can do these herself) or the sport tops. They can take Avent sippy spouts too. I like these: http://www.kidsurplus.com/ave692.html because they are not as "babyish," though I much prefer a straw top for developmental reasons.

The Dr. Brown's brushes are great for the straws! Our old house didn't have a dishwasher and those were lifesavers.

I use the same cups and also freeze 3 milk cubes to put in there to make sure it stays cold along with the regular ice packs in the lunch box
