I have a Zolo Cotton Sling and just can't figure it out. I *want* to love it based on all of the positive reviews here and I want to wear DS more (esp since we have a cruise coming up in a few weeks!).
Question...has anyone gone to a La Leche League meeting for the sole purpose of learning how to wear a sling?!? I am BFing, so it's not as though I'd feel out of place. I happened to find an evening meeting for this Thursday night that's near my home. TIA! Laura mom to William 3.5.2003 PS: I haven't called Darian, though I've looked on the TaylorMade website and the Zolo website for ideas and suggestions. I think I just need someone to SHOW me :-) |

I'd do it. Sometimes that's all it takes, is to see someone else, and to watch someone do it. You should have some good slingers at a LLL meeting. Heck, if you lived near me, you could follow me around Target and you'd get the hang of it! ;-) I swear, I get stopped and questioned at Target about slings more than anywhere else, so maybe you should just go there instead. Kidding. Sort of.... ;-)
There is a video from Maya Wrap that you can get from their site. It's not the same sling, but watching the video when I first started out really, really helped me (although I didn't love the Maya, I understood the mechanics of it after that). The only thing I caution is that in the Maya video, the rings are a little low, placement wise, but that's easily overcome.... |

I agree. This video REALLY helped me, just by being able to SEE how someone was operating a sling.

Yes. I went to my first La Leche League meeting with two slings and said "please show me how". They got me started.
Another resource is the Yahoo group called BabyWearing. There are some great tips in post 4903 in the archives, posted just today. You have to join the group to see the archives. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/babywearing ...Karen Jacob Nathaniel Feb 91 Logan Elizabeth Mar 03

I would! There is usually at least 1 sling marm in the group. If you can get to a day meeting, I have always found more sling mamas at them. But usually the leaders have experience, so an evening meeting should also be helpful. I miss my home group in NJ, they were/are very nice ladies!!

ROFL.
I'm laughing because thats my plan. I still pregnant, but attended my first LLL meeting last week, and will make it to one more before giving birth (if baby comes when planned). I'm going to make breastfeeding contacts, but I've already decided to try and get someone there to show me how to use a sling. I'm one of those people who learns better when I'm shown. I can read about it or watch a video, but it doesn't compare to being shown. |

Decided to go to the day meeting since more "sling mama's" are supposed to be there. I wasn't too keen on going to the meeting at 7:30 PM anyway so I will be going to another one a little further from my house at 10:00 am tomorrow. I promise I will let you know if it was helpful. I was even going to wash my Zolo so that it would be softer and easier to adjust but I got sidetracked. Now I will have to watch the video again that Beth recommended so I can get it rethreaded. Eeks!

Well, went to the meeting and got a little bit of help before the meeting started. I had brilliantly thought of washing the sling and didn't then when I went to watch the video online again this morning....it wasn't working. There site must have been having problems this morning. So someone showed me how to thread it and what to pull where to tighten it up but never really got into showing me with Ryan in the sling (you know, the important part ;-)). Huge bummer but I am going to bring it to another meeting that is in 2 weeks and have someone show me. There were 2 "sling mama's" in the meeting and they were selling the Maya wrap sling along with the books and such. He was the youngest one at the meeting so the holds were different than the 2 that were wearing their slings. I am going to watch the Maya streams on line and just keep practicing since I am getting better at it. Good luck finding someone to show you!!!
