Which type of shoe for the winter?

DD will outgrow her shoes around the first of the year (if she follows her pattern of every 3 months moving up at least a 1/2 size). Right now she has Tsukisoshi sneakers (she has wide feet). We go back to the shoe store around new years. Should I get her another pair of sneakers for the winter or what do you suggest (I know it also will depend on what the shoe store has to fit her wide (very thick very fat) feet--it's an independent store that sells all the brands talked about here and then some).

Also, she only gets one pair of shoes a season right now, but I am finding she is starting to need 2 different types (sneakerish and mary jane ish). Whatever I get at the shoe store, I will probably be looking for something cheaper for a second shoe. DD wears an 8W to XW right now. Any suggestions other than stride rite and Tsukisoshi?

resources for me re yelling/more effective parenting

The poll thread the other day got me thinking about how much I yell. Lately, I find myself losing more calm more often than not. My kids have not readjusted to daylight savings time, and are usually up by 5am EVERY day. So by dinner time, we are ALL overtired and grumpy. My 6yo DS and I are both headstrong. I get into arguments with him that should not happen. He loves to back talk and push my buttons, and I get sucked right in. I do not know how to ignore him, or get him to be more respectful, and we just start a back and forth that leaves both of us screaming at each other. Real mature on my part, I know. My son is like Jekyll and Hyde. One minute he is a loving, caring, sweet boy, and the next he is a screaming lunatic (of course, one could probably say the same thing about his mother!). He used to be so laid back and calm, and I am sure a lot of his stressed out behavior is a direct result of my own. Having 5 kids under the age of 6 is NOT easy, but I truly love all my children and want to be an effective parent. things HAVE been going very well lately. Moving here a few years ago resulted in a big pay raise for my husband, who finally finished residency/fellowship and got his first "real" job. We now have cleaners who come twice a month, and the two oldest are in school full time. We also have a few sitters who can help out when needed. But lately, hubby has been working late, I have cut WAY back on my gym time due to other commitments (which is MY stress release), and things are getting crazy again. My son does not take ownership of ANY of his behaviors, which is one of the things that drives me crazy the most. Everything is MY fault, from him leaving clothes on the floor, to him being mean to his sisters, to him yelling at me because he hates what I made for dinner. He has a long school day, bookended by 40+ min bus rides, so when he gets home, I try to give him some loving, and some down time. What he really wants when he gets home is "alone" time with me, which is rarely possible with 4 younger sisters. But on the advice of others here, I do try to give him as much as I can by including him in dinner prep, having him help me where he can. For the most part, he IS a good kid outside of the home, but its like he saves all his "bad" behaviors (I hate to call them "bad") for me. We did have a short-lived issue with him taking things from classmates last year, but that was the first time anything negative has ever occurred elsewhere. That resolved quickly, and the overwhelming consensus from all his teachers and other adults he has contact with is that he is a wonderful boy. I guess what I am looking for is some advice on how to teach him that I deserve AT LEAST the same respect that his teachers get, and how to avoid heated arguments with him. If I ask him to do something, I do not want a 5 minute discussion on why he should not have to do that, or why he is not responsible, or whatever. I want it done! Plain and simple. I don't want to engage in a back and forth discussion where we both end up frustrated and screaming. But I don't know where to start or what to do. Please help me figure this out. I have 4 more girls following in his footsteps, and I feel like I am rapidly losing what little control I have.

I just got my Skip Hop Dash Deluxe in the mail today (Cherry Bloom pattern). I love it so far!! Baby is due in Feb. but Amazon had a fantabulous sale going. I got the bag + shipping for a total of $36. It usually goes for about $60-65!! Couldn't pass it up, and didn't want to wait for another sale like that.

It seems just big enough. I wanted something for my newborn, and something that could hold my personal stuff too. Plus a sippy/toys for my preschooler.

The bag is not heavy (I found the Ju Ju bags to be heavy even before putting stuff in them). I like the pad on the shoulder strap - and it's wide so it actually stays on my shoulder! Plus it has stroller clips so I can hook it to the back of my stroller. I can't wait to use it! Just thought I would post about my new bag!! :yay:

I was able to use the Rewards R Us 20% off any baby item coupon that is valid starting today which made it only $62. It was the only Volo left so I snatched it. Needed a more lightweight stroller for traveling everyday use since my BJJC is a bit too heavy to take in and out of the car.

I know, this is so random, but I didn't know where else to ask it!

Okay, so tomorrow is DS's birthday and the kids are going to be doing some cheapy foam crafts I bought from Oriental Trading Company. I did pick up some glue dots but I felt like they folded up pretty easily (like contacts) when I was trying one of the crafts last night. Would glue be easier? Like if I bought a bunch for the table? Wondering about the sharing thing as there are going to be like 15 of them. But then I'm just picturing them having trouble with the dots and/or losing them, etc...

Help! This birthday is making me mental!

Anyone have any tips or tricks for getting your hair to look nice if you don't have time to wash, blowdry and go through the whole routine?
I didn't wash my hair this morning and just pulled it back into a ponytail. But I want it to look "nice" for going out later tonight.
I never know how to pull this off.
I was thinking of just pulling into a messy ponytail. Brushing it without doing anything else to it would be a disaster for me. I have wavy hair and it gets frizzy when I brush it.
I could maybe try to flatiron it???

I got spoiled with DS1 being a champion sleeper and napper. So I'm wondering if I'm just holding DS2 up to too high of a standard. His early rising is frustrating me.

He's 8 months old.

He's in bed every night around 6pm, most nights falling asleep by 6:15 pm. (I've tried getting him to take a 3rd nap to extend the bedtime a bit, but he won't do it.) He doesn't wake up during the night.

He naps twice during the day (9am and 1pm) for an hour each.

Now here's the problem - he's inconsistent with his morning wake-up. Sometimes between 5-6am, but always by 6:30am. He wakes happy but if I don't go to him in 10-15 minutes, he cries. I'd like him to either sleep until 7 or remain happily in his crib until 7 like his brother does : )

When he wakes before 6am, I nurse him and lay him back down. But some mornings he plays and doesn't fall back asleep till 7, throwing off the entire day.

When he wakes after 6am, I feed him and get him up, which makes him over-tired by the 9am nap.

What would you do? I'm hesitant to make the bedtime later because I go to the gym after he goes down at night and I don't know how motivated I'd be to go if I had to push it any later...
