everything about my 5/27 wedding was beautiful and wonderful except the catering which i am still apologizing to the guests for. we hired blue plate because of their "good reputation" - apparently we weren't worth maintaining that reputation.
we had fruit, bread, cheese, summer sausage and crackers as light hors d'oevres to save money - and it still ended up costing like $15 a head including staffing. (that does not include the alcohol). we would have paid that happily if it had been a) good food - stale bread, chicken in a biscuit crackers and american cheese slices - oh, i'm sorry those were supposed to be chedder, well they didn't taste like it - not to mention the completely horrific presentation (we weren't asking much - since they REFUSED to give us baskets like i asked i gave in and said the plastic trays would be okay - how about a garnish? a piece of arugula? nothing on the plates but food and VERY poorly arranged b) enough food - you'd think $15 a head would buy a heck of a lot of cheese, but there were only a couple slices of cheese per person. people were stalking from table to table looking for food and someone ordered 20 pizzas. how embarrassing!
additionally, they refused to cut the cake. ???? we're not trained to cut cakes? hello? they knew it was a wedding. well i'm not trained either and neither are my guests, but they were GUESTS and shouldn't be cutting wedding cake. i tried to do it but my friends wouldn't let me.
they gave us a very minimal nod ($300 off) to poor service and are still charging us almost 100%. So we paid over $2000 for stale bread and american cheese - and only enough for people to have a couple of bites!!!
i just want to warn other brides out there. maybe if you want to spend $50,000 on your wedding blue plate will maintain their "reputation" for you, but for those of us normal people paying for our own on a very tight budget, well, AVOID these people like the plague.
