I LOVE this idea, and the next event in SF is in November..but I have a few questions. The site really does not tell you anything about the size or price range of the dresses. Has anyone attended one of these events? Are these gowns a good deal (bargain) because they have beeen worn before? Or are they just a chance to buy an expensive gown with the money going to charity? Is anyone else going? The site is www.makingmemories.org

In the website, it says that the gowns are from $99 to $799, which are great prices.

I went to this event a couple of weeks ago in the East Bay, CA and I actually ended up buying a dress! The price, $499, was 68% off the regular price, and the dress is made with a 100% silk (outer) - I thought it was a great deal!...better than the dresses I tried on at a sample sale at Bella Mia Bridal. My dress is an ivory Marisa dress, trumpet/mermaid style. It's on the plain side, but I thought I can just embellish it on my own and still save money, especially since I was looking into getting a Pronovia or La Sposa dress. Although it's not as low as the price as the online China-made dresses, I liked how I got a great deal and still contributed to charity.
I saw a lot of other pretty dresses with great prices. For example, I saw this gorgeous 100% silk Christos dress, originally $1800, being sold for $499. (I didn't choose this dress b/c the alterations cost a lot more than my dress.) Also, I saw a lot more A-line and ballroom type dresses (not necessarily my style) as well as different types of brands, some I heard of (Jasmine, Maggie Sattero, etc.) and some I never heard of. The manufacturers or bridal shops donate dresses to this event. They also have seamstresses there to give you estimates of alterations and volunteers to help dress you.
I definitely do recommend checking it out if it's in your area. You never know what you'll find.
