Okay... I have a few questions..Is the diamond certified? GIA...etc. ???..do you have any of the paper work that came with the diamond originally? If you do...and if you don't, just the appraisal might work, you could call around at some reputable and established jewelry stores that aren't chains (see the BBB to check the store's history)and see if they'll put in on consignment for you (usually one that carry estate sale jewelry are your best bet, and they just take a percentage of the sale...or...you could sell it on ebay. Not to piss you off or anything...but 9,000 is a bit on the high side for a 1 carat I color even if it is vvs2, unless its an ideal or premium cut.So even if you don't have certification you might want to pay the 100 dollars to get it done and that way you'll be more likely to get what your ring is worth retail. Before you think about how much you should get for it go to a few webites... such as www.bluenile.com or www.mondera.com ...which offer loose stones...and find a stone like yours...not just clarity and color but cut(round, princess) and quality of cut (ideal, very good, etc) and see what they're charging for the stone...then you'll have a better idea of what you can get for your ring. Also, certified rings IGA etc. will always be worth more retail. oh.. you could always post it in the newspaper too...but be careful to meet the person somewhere other than your home and bring a friend if they want to see it, also, saying that you're keeping it in a safety deposit box isn't a bad idea. Hope this helps. Layla

The diamond was certified and independently appraised twice for the amount stated. It was ideal cut and I later found that independent jewelers considered it more G/H color but due to one specific spot...the I color was declared for certification purposes. I called around and found that most stores would not consign an item of that nature. I was told..a lesser quality diamond is easier to get rid of. In the end, I took a 2/3 cut on the price, put it in the newspaper and had a local jeweler conduct the transaction.
