We are running out of time to find music for our November 7th wedding reception. I really, really wanted a jazzy/classic type ensemble to play during dinner and a d.j. to play during dancing. I was thinking piano/harp or strings thing but I can't find anyone like that. I also have quotes from dj's starting at 600 + dollars for four hours. Is that a good price? Help! Any suggestions or comments would be great. Thanks!

$600 in LA is normal. You may be able to find a good one for less. You have time. I didn't book my band until 6 weeks before. Too bad you aren't in LA, I could recommend some great bands at reasonable prices. Keep asking around. Talk to music teachers at a local college. All aspiring musicians want to be in a band and don't even charge that much for live music.
Another suggestion is going to a jazz club in the area. Sometimes people will travel too. You cold look in Boulder or other areas that might have this type of musician. Don't give up, there could be someone great out there.

Have you tried the service offered by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra? I'm sure you've made your plans by now, but if not, call them! They can put together any configuartion of musicians you want, and they play classical, jazz, and other music genres. You can contact them at (303) 986-8742. Terry Smith is the person who puts together the ensembles.

You can find the CSO musicians' "moonlighting" information at the following Web site. Terry Smith is very prompt at getting you the information you need.

Or, just plug in "Colorado Ensembles LLC" into Google and the site comes right up.
