We are planning to create our own mixes for the reception on our iPods, which will allow us to pick exactly the music we want (create playlist for dinner music, one for dancing, etc.) We think we can just rent amps and speakers in Kauai (destination wedding). Has anyone else used an iPod for their reception? If so, can you please advise whether this worked or not?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would like to have ipods be the music source for my wedding too. I would love to have the wedding party have the mics to cut in when needed or for fun. I'm wondering what all equipment would we need. Do we need a mixer?

The only real problems that I see are these:

-Who MC's your party? Who calls you out for your first dance, etc?
-Who is in charge of fixing the iPod, amps, speakers if something goes wrong?

If you are willing to deal with these problems and risks, then here is a whole heap of money you can save.

Have you thought about the legal ramifications of using downloaded music in a performance environment? I know it is your wedding, but if you check the legal language on all the "legit" download sites you will see that the downloaded song(s) is(are) only licensed for personal use. This means it cannot be used in a performance capacity, and no matter what you wish to believe, your wedding in a paid catering hall would be considered a performance, plain and simple. I know not all dj's comply with the legal issues, but you would be wise to find a good, legal, insured dj and save yourself the issues. And lets not even discuss it if you are using morpheus/limewire/bearshare or any of the other illegal filesharing programs. Best of luck to you

I often use my iPod for accompaniment music when I'm performing (I'm an opera singer who does gigs all over..) I bought an inexpensive adapter plug that plugs into the headphone jack and my iPod will play through any speaker.

I don't use downloaded stuff, though. What I use is the CD's that are sold for performace or a recording I make myself.

My fiance' and I had the same idea originally. We got a band instead, though, because someone else offered to pay for it!

Good Luck!
