I found that using a calligrapher to hand write 25
invites/envelopes was less expensive than engraving
or letterpress. This is because engraving and letterpress have
high set up costs. My calligrapher did not charge me a
design fee because I had already worked out the layout I
wanted to use (this of course, would vary from calligrapher
to calligrapher). Another plus, they were done in two days!
And, you can order extra invitations as needed, rather
than 25 at a time. (I also feel good that my money went towards supporting an artist in a craft she loves).

If you like calligraphy, but are having a large wedding, you might
try this simple trick (told to me by a calligrapher who used it
for her daughters wedding):
Have a master invite written($50-75), then have it machine printed in GRAY ink (rather than black). It will appear more "hand-done".

Good luck - amelia
