I'm looking for a reception site in the NOVA area that will allow us to do our own catering without charging us an arm and a leg to rent the site. I'm currently looking at the Fairfax County Parks rental places, but I need more ideas in case they don't work. Ideally, we want a big room that will allow a little dancing space and fit up to 200 people (probably more around 125-150). Can you think of any place around here that can do that? Our main area search is Fairfax and Loudoun counties, but anywhere close would be great. Thanks so much for your help!!!

...Had any luck yet? I know this area can be rotten. I've been to several weddings in the last couple years at several different sites, and some are definitely worth mentioning. So, here they are:

Outdoor weddings -
Airlie Conference Center (does not look at all like a conference center) - www.airlie.com
Oatlands Plantation - www.oatlands.org

Indoors (Reception) -
Old Town Hall (Fairfax) - not huge, but very pretty - www.ci.fairfax.va.us/ParksRec/OldTownInformation.htm

I can't give many specifics as far as price, but the weddings were beautiful and none of the brides had tons of money to work with.

I am very interested to hear what you come up with. I'm not engaged yet, but when I am I probably won't have much time to plan, and that is a major disadvantage in this area.

I am not sure how far you are willing to go, but... In my search, I came across a place in Shepardstown, WV called "The Entler Hotel" which appears to rent out space (including kitchen space) at a very reasonable rate (e.g., $25 per hour). I did not pursue this place as I wanted an all-in-one facility, but I can tell you that the building is very pretty. The URL is http://users.stargate.net/~hsc/rentals.html. Shepardstown is located only about 1 1/4 hours from DC. Good luck with your search.

I have attended events here. I know of some weddings there. It's a bit rustic, but it may be what you seek. You would have to have a Montgomery or PG county resident book it for you.

Hope that helps.
