Right now, I'm checking out flower farms instead of regular florists. The bouquets I've seen are more original (and have more of a wildflower look), and the prices can't be beat. I live in DC, where you can easily spends thousands on flowers, and I'm getting quotes that are closer to those of my friend who lives in a rural area hours away from me.

I had thought about doing my own flowers, but realized that I did not have the time to do that (early wedding, very large wedding party, and many out of town people to see before the wedding). This is a nice alternative for someone who does not want to pay full price at a regular florist, but also does not want to do their own flowers.

Oh, and in case my last message did not make this clear, some flower farms will actually arrange bouquets, corsages, centerpieces, etc. for you. And they will deliver the flowers and set up the centerpieces at your wedding site. This is different than going to a farmer's market and buying loose flowers on the day of your wedding.

I live in the DC suburbs and am interested in a list of flower farms you have found in this area. Thanks!

Right now I'm most interested in Flinthill Farms in Buckeysville, MD. I also have heard of of Farmhouse Flowers in Brookeville, Md at (301) 963-5044, but I have not had a chance to call them yet.

Janet Friedman at Flinthill Farms is really nice and I liked her pictures of other weddings, which had a more informal look with fresh-cut seasonal flowers in hand-tied bouquets and the like.

I really appreciate this recommendation-! I called Farmhouse Flowers after reading it. They're not only much more affordable, but much nicer to deal with than any of the retail florists I'd contacted. Thank you!

Glad I could help!! I actually ended up going with Farmhouse Flowers after I met with Dave Dowling (the owner). He was so awesome and I loved his suggestions (not to mention his prices). :)

Hi,
This sounds like a great idea, so tell me, they prepare your flowers for you? Also, where do you find flower farms?

Do you have any recommendations for finding local flower farms? I live in Cal and obviously can't use one in DC!

Great advice!
