i have a dilemma. we just placed a non-refundable deposit on my maid-of-honor's dress at a local salon. i was able to find out the style number and designer of the dress and obtain some really good online quotes for it. would it be fair to ask the salon to match the best price i found, so that i could order them all at the same time from the shop? or would this be unfair? does anybody know if some shops do this for bridesmaid dresses? thanks in advance!

While it never hurts to ask, to be honest, the time to get discount quotes is BEFORE you place the deposit! By placing the deposit and signing the sales slip, you are entering into a contract to buy the gown. Typically, such agreements are non-cancellable, mom-changeable, etc.
Just an FYI,

Unfortunately, the salon wouldn't give us one bit of information about the dress until after we put down the deposit (which I thought was extremely shady). But we knew that she was definitely getting that particular dress, so I was prepared for this to happen. We weren't expecting the other bridesmaids to get the same dress. But then when I found out that they liked it too, we figured we could save money by ordering them all together. (And then that's where the discount quoting came in.) Oh well, I guess I will still try...
