Hey I was one looking at a craft store in a mall near me when I decided to look in David's Bridal I was just looking to get ideas plus if I saw any style I liked I knew I could try it on since they would have my size. Well I tried on a few gowns and I fell in love with this one gown. I know it is the dress I want. So I tried looking in the different magazines and web sites but I haven't beeen able to find a dress remotely like the one I fell in love with. I am not too keen on buying from David's from things I have read and heard about plus when I was there a bride came in to pick up her gown and I am not sure all that happened but she yelled that they hadn't done the alterations and needed her gown so she was going to take it somewhere else. I was wondering if I should order my dress(they didn't have the size I needed in stock) or try to find the same type of gown from another designer? I don't need the gown for about 18 monthes but I want to have it so I won't have to worry about ordering and getting it on time. Thanks.

Hi Leticia:
Well, good question. We won't debate the pros/cons of David's here (our book, BRIDAL BARGAINS has a detailed report and you can find plenty of comments on these boards about David's)---but if this the ONE dress you love, I'd get it. The odds you could find a similiar style at another shop are slim, especially if it is a unique style. With 18 months before your wedding, you certainly have time to look---but you risk losing the first gown if David's discontinues the style.
Best wishes,

I know I have read your book bridal Bargins and the 1999 issue of Bridal Gown Guide. I guess I just wanted some reassuance that I would make a good choice. I have seen a couple of dresses like this one but not the same thing. Plus this way I can get this dress and buy the $390.00 I fell in love with and keep it all inder $1,000.00. Thanks your help.

I loved my experience with David's Bridal. I also have my dress hanging in my closet though. I did not need to order it and I too have read the horror stories and that my prevent me from ordering my bridesmaids dresses from them. But I would have to say that I was overly pleased with the quality, price, and service I got from David's.

Hi Leticia,
Don't forget to get a quote from DBS - I would be happy to assist you. I also can get shoes, veil, maids dresses etc. I also have 8 invitation books and lots of other stuff. No pressure sales. See why I am considered a Bride's best friend!

Can DBS get David's Bridal dresses? I wasn't sure if you could get David's Bridal dresses at a discount anywhere, since they're already kind of a "discount" kinda place.

My experience with David's has been tolerable, so far. I love my dress, but the atmosphere's chaotic. Also, the alterations are rather expensive. I am not purchasing bridesmaid dresses at David's. (I'm letting them pick out whatever dresses they like, so long as they don't clash.) I'll give you a run-down of my costs, so you can see for yourself how they make their money (can we say "alterations"??):
Dress: $300
Waist: $40
Hem: $90
Shoulders (with pads): $60
Bra cups (labor): $5
Bra cups (material): $15
As you probably noticed, the alterations are costing almost as much as the dress itself!
Cheers,
Colleen

Leticia,
I did not have a good experience with David's. The service turned me off. I ended up going with DBS. BUT I've had friends who had a good experience or got such a great deal on a dress they loved that they were willing to deal with the poor service. DBS cannot get David's dresses, so if you absolutely love the dress and are 100% sure it's the one, go for it. You may get a great sales person to help you and make it a good experience for you.
Good Luck!

Have you tried bridesave.com? It looks they they do knock offs of David's (who knocks off other designs anyway).
BTW: who says David's has to do your alterations? Especially if they are so costly!

They don't necessarily knock off David's - though their sight has a search gadget that lets you look at comparable dresses from the designers they're authorized the sell for (some are very close in design/style, others are not close at all).
The designers Bridesave carries are sometimes the orignal designers for the style, which David's in turn has knocked off, though they may just be imitating another designer.
Then again, everyone is putting out the same dresses lately (how many designers this year seem to have that simple, spaghetti strap a-line with the wide beige/golden sash? I swear I've seen at least three makers at the salons i've checked out, including David's).
