I found on-line a lovely gown designed by Justina McCaffrey ("Carmen"). I am considering purchasing this gown "sight unseen" because it is the style that I am seeking (with sleeves, not too busy, not the 80s-90s "lace and poof" look), but such style is not so easy to find in these days of bare gowns. I contacted McCaffrey's authorized dealer in my area, Mon Amie Bridal in Costa Mesa, but was told that they did not carry the dress; however, they could order a "sample" for me to try on for what I considered to be an obscene, non-refundable charge. I went so far as to call authorized dealers in other states, but could not find one that carried the dress. Nevertheless, I contacted McCaffrey's "flagship" store in Ottawa, Canada, and have been treated extremely well. All of my requests have been answered expediently, courteously and professionally. My only concern is as to the general quality of McCaffrey's gowns. For close to $2,000, I expect to receive something splendid.
I noted that McCaffrey received a favorable review in Bridal Bargains. I would appreciate any further comments or insight, especially from those who have purchased, tried on, or otherwise considered a McCaffrey gown. My gracious thanks to all respondents. --Anne

Dear Anne,

I have had opportunity to look at Justina McCaffrey's gowns closely as I live and work in Ottawa, Canada. I am a milliner and create quality, high-end headwear. I do not think you should be concerned about quality of workmanship when buying a gown from Justina McCaffrey. She and her staff take great pride and care in the creation and production of each gown that I have examined. If you decide to purchase one of Justina McCaffrey's gowns, you would surely receive 'something splendid'.
