Pros: Great compact fold, stands up folded, small and light, my daughter is comfy and enjoys riding in it
Cons: Maneuverability, handlebars are much too short, not very useful canopy, useless basket, no cupholder

We registered for the Combi DX stroller at BRU and got it for our baby shower. We also had a frame for the infant carseat, and a jogging stroller, but were hoping this would be our 'everyday' stroller for short walks up the street to restaurants, stores, and for car trips. We were so excited about this find - but by now we've found that you really do get what you pay for.

This stroller really does have a lot of things going for it. The double fold means that it is very compact when folded, and we loved that it is free-standing when folded - we store it behind the door in my daughter's bedroom. It has a nice carrying strap, and is light and portable. It's also nice for going into restaurants and stores because it's relatively narrow and small. We've flown with it several times already and it's easy to get through security. For $90 we don't worry about gate checking it, but it's held up very well anyway, 5 round-trips so far without any visible wear-and-tear.

However, after using it for a while we found that there are some killer drawbacks.

The real deal-breaker for us is the lack of maneuverability. When my daughter was little and mostly reclined, I locked the front wheels into position, and just pushed down on the handlebar to lift the front wheels, then turn. Not graceful or ideal, but it mostly worked. Now that she is bigger (just turned one), she likes to sit up and look out, so all her weight it over the front wheels and apparently this makes lifting them up impossible. So I now have the wheels unlocked, but steering with the wheels unlocked proved to be an even bigger pain. We live in a condo and have to get through three doors to get outside. If the front wheels aren't locked into position, when I stop and restart the stroller, at least one of the two front wheels turns sideways. I can't get it going straight again without some major jostling and/or kicking the wheels so they are pointing straight again. I prefer not to think about how many times I've been stopped in my tracks, struggling to get through a door. I think there are other strollers that have this issue once in a while, but with the Cosmo, it's more than 50% of the time. Very frustrating! It's also difficult to get over any curbs or cracks in the sidewalk because I can't lift up the front wheels with her in it anymore, but this probably isn't a problem specific to this stroller.

The next problem is that the handlebar is really short and I find myself hunched over to push it, and then still kicking the wheels pretty regularly. I'm about 5'5" and didn't really anticipate this problem (and didn't notice it at the store of course!).

The basket underneath is fairly big, but rendered nearly useless because of a bar running smack through the center of it. This also makes it difficult to fish anything out of it. I can throw a jacket and a toy or two in there, but no bags. There is a small flap pocket on the back of the stroller, which is pretty useful. I wish that it had a full zipper instead of a velcro dot closure though, I'm always afraid that something will fall out of it. And also it's difficult to get into it when the seat is upright.

The canopy is very small and only adjustable in a small range. I find that in any given round-trip walk, I can't block the sun in two out of the four directions, except at high noon.

My model came with a cupholder for the passenger, which is useful for a bottle or sippy, but none for the parent. Not that big of a deal, and after all, the way this stroller steers, half the coffee would have sloshed out anyway.

So this is my experience with this stroller anyway. Lots of little problems, but they would all be tolerable if the front wheels didn't get turned around and jammed up so frequently. It has proved to be a pretty good air-travel stroller, but then any umbrella stroller is probably up for that job.

Pros: Carry strap, compact fold.
Cons: Poorly designed basket, somewhat short handles.

DH & I really love this stroller. It's the $100 model (either EX or DX, don't remember; not the $60 ST model), but I got the discontinued color marked down for about $75 including tax.

We've never had any problems with maneuverability, in fact DH & I both think it handles very well. Also, the recline is super-easy to use. But the selling point on the Cosmo is the fold. It easily folds up small, and then stands up on its own. And the UNfold is even quicker & easier. There's a carry strap-- yes, the Cosmo is compact & lightweight enough to sling over your shoulder.

I'd heard people complain they were always kicking the back wheels because they were spaced too close together. True enough, but if the wheels were farther apart, it wouldn't be as compact, so it's a trade-off. Although if the handles were a bit taller, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. My other complaint is the basket that's a decent size but too hard to access. Actually, the (mesh) basket is wide enough to rub up against the wheels, knocking dirt onto whatever is inside.

But overall, the pros far outweigh the cons, and the biggest pro is that DD loves to ride in it.

Pros: Light, full recline, easily maneuvered, compact fold
Cons: Basket underneath is a little small

A few months ago I purchased a new Cosmo EX stroller online for about $70. It is so light (about 12 lbs.)! It folds easily and compactly, without having to put it on the ground like the Maclaren or Chicco. I can easily get it in and out of my Corolla's trunk, and it doesn't take up much space, either. My Graco stroller consumed my entire trunk.

I use it indoors and out, and can even steer with one hand, since it has a bar instead of handles. It travels well at the airport, too. My son enjoys riding in it, and the straps have a "protective cover" so they don't hurt his neck. It can recline fully for naps, and the canopy protects pretty well from sun. It is also machine-washable. The back of the canopy has a pocket and there is also basket underneath, but it is a bit small.

I absolutely love this stroller! In fact, I rave about it so much that a friend of mine just got one, and she is happy with it, too. I would recommend it to anyone!

OK stroller, not as good as expected, January 20, 2007

Pros: Size, light weight, compact umbrella fold, styling
Cons: Poor handling, basket is small and hard to access

We really wanted to like this stroller because of its compact size (both folded and unfolded) and its stylish looks, but even at the store, I noticed that the maneuverability was poor. The front wheels don't steer readily so it feels that you're always fighting the stroller when turning. We bought it anyway, thinking that we could overlook the poor handling. We were wrong. After living with the stroller for 7 months, we simply got fed up with the poor handling and we are now looking for another (more maneuverable) stroller. Also, the basket is not very useful (too small and a support bar blocks access).

On the plus side, it rides pretty well over street surfaces (for a lightweight stroller) and we do love its compact fold. We've carried it on a plane and it easily fits in the overhead bin.

Great little NYC stroller, April 29, 2007

Pros: It is super lightweight and a spacesaver
Cons: The mesh basket is really awful

I registered for this and it was a gift, but I think it was about $79 (for the DX) at Target. I have been using this since my son was about 2 weeks old (March 06) and now he is almost 14 months and it is still hanging in there. And believe me I have put a LOT of miles on it. I love it because it is so lightweight. I have a Toyota RAV4 (small SUV) so throwing it in and out of the back is a breeze plus leaves plenty of room for shopping bags. But on my trips into Manhattan I take the subway or walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. I live in Ft Greene so I do a lot of walking around the neighborhood as well as Bklyn Heights and Cobble Hill. This is fantastic for the subway because first of all not all stations have elevators and secondly the elevators aren't always working. It is very easy to quickly take the baby out and carry the stroller up the stairs even without folding it up. It also has a carrying strap attached which is convenient if you do fold it all the way. The basket is a mesh bag which can hold a sweater or some water but there is a bar in the way that makes things even worse. If the bar wasn't there it would make a big difference. Instead I use the KelGar stroller swivel hook things which I keep overloading and breaking but continue to buy, they're great. Another thing is the tri-fold feature, great if you have a small car and also great if you want to keep it out of the way in your apartment (or house!). When I first had the baby I had the Graco snap n go frame with my Graco car seat, but I also used this a lot because the baby came in the spring so I liked to take him out and about without the car seat. He was also such a hot (warm!) baby I hated keeping him enveloped in the car seat if we weren't going in the car. So with these three things in the apt it was good to fold up the stroller, which by the way stands on its own, and put it back in the corner when I wasn't using it. I am now stressing out about buying a replacement stroller, as I have a big boy and this stroller has seen better days. The maneuverability of those front tires is weakening and I don't want to get caught without a stroller with spring in the air. I am very spoiled with the super light weight and size of this stroller and am really having a hard time deciding on a new one. This stroller is really almost perfect, it has all of the features I want in a new one except it's a little small now for my big boy: one bar handle, a bar in the front for baby, and light weight. I loved that I have used it for over a year, it's the only stroller I've had because it reclines for an infant. And like I said I have put a LOT of miles on it.
