Pros:
The chair is well-designed and works from infancy onward
Cons:
The design is cheaply executed

We initially wanted a Stokke chair but realized getting the infant adjustment kit was impossible. Once we found out about the Svan we were pleased to get an attractive wooden chair that could be used from when our son first started to eat his meals there (around 5 months).Unfortunately we have learned why the Svan is priced so much lower than the Stokke. We do like many features about the chair, such as its good-looking design, relatively small size, and adjustability to change with the size and age of the child. We have also found it pretty easy to keep clean. On the negative side, we have had a constant problem getting the tray to stay level--no amount of adjusting has helped. In addition, some of the bolts do not stay in position so we are constantly tightening and retightening. We are hopeful that in a few months when our son no longer has the tray and sits at the table we will be happier with the chair as many of the problems seem to be with the infant kit.

Pros:
Small, stylish, sturdy, easy to clean
Cons:
Tray wood grains have raised slightly.

We love our SVAN highchair. My son is 20 months and we have been using it since he was 6 months old. The highchair is easy to clean, study and stylish. We have a small kitchen and we are also thrilled that the chair is so small. It feels like he sits with us at the table. We also really appreciate having a chair made of wood, rather than another plastic monstrosity in the house.Only problem we have had...the wood grains on the tray have raised someâ€|probably our fault for not wiping up the tray as soon as we should.

Cons:

I would have bought a Stokke if there was a way to attach a tray for feeding a 6 month old. However, this was the only other option available when we purchased this in late 2003. We paid about $270 from Babycenter.com for the entire infant kit with chair. Now that we have removed the tray and belly bar of the infant kit, this chair is still working well as a dining seat for our 3 yr old. There are a lot of nooks and crannies in this chair, which I have to clean using a toothbrush or pipe cleaners.Adjusting the various heights for the seat, etc... is a pain since we have to get the Allen wrench out.If we manage to have siblings for our daughter, we are definitely buying her a Stokke chair.

Cons:
no cons except the price

We bought a Prima Pappa highchair for our first child in 1998 but never liked it all that much. This time we got the Svan, and we're liking it a lot more.First of all, it's the perfect size for our smallish kitchen -- it's not a big ugly piece of plastic and vinyl taking up three feet of floor space, like the Prima Pappa. The design is sleek, modern, and attractive. It's light enough to pick up easily and move to the dining room, and because the baby sits upright, the chair can easily be pulled up to a dining table once you remove the tray. I particularly love that it doesn't scream "baby gear" like other high chairs on the market. We've found the chair perfectly sturdy, although admittedly we've only had it for six months and haven't had to adjust it yet. No problems with the tray on ours. And I've found it no harder to clean that the Prima Pappa -- easier, in fact, because you can remove the padded cushions for cleaning.

Pros:
The chair looks great and isn't plastic
Cons:
Slanting Tray drives me nuts
|
|
I don't recall exactly how much I paid for the chair, but I think it was around $280 with the infant kit and cushion. I bought this chair because it was wood and it looked nice. I didn't want an ugly piece of plastic sitting in my dining room. Granted, the highchair does look nice, but I have not been happy with the infant tray. It continually slants downward and I have to re-tighten the bolts every couple of days. I have emailed Svan a couple of times complaining about the slant of the tray and they have never responded. I think the quality should be superb if you spend this much on a high chair. The quality of the chair does not meet my expectations for the price. But if you want to spend $300 on something that looks good and don't care about the functionality, then it's great!
