Capretti Venuto crib is beautiful and sturdy, June 5, 2009

Pros: Sturdy, solid construction
Cons: Difficult to attach a mobile

I ordered a Capretti Venuto crib in Snowdrift from Great Beginnings. Although it took about 14 weeks to come in, my son has been sleeping just fine in his cradle. The crib is beautiful. The snowdrift color is very "baby" in my opinion and very soft in the nursery. I ordered this crib because of the praise it received in Baby Bargains and because it was one of the only cribs I found that did not shake or move at all when I pushed on it. I wanted a crib that was convertible and had no moving parts (drop side, fold side, etc.). The conversion kits to toddler and full-size bed come included, which makes the crib a better value than some other cribs at the same price point that sell the conversion kits separately. My only problem is storing the extra pieces until they are needed! I am very pleased with my crib. Great Beginnings offers delivery and set-up for $80, which I highly recommend. They are very friendly and efficient, taking minimal time to set the crib up. I was more confident having them set it up since they do it frequently and they inspected the pieces for scratches and were careful during construction so as not to make any "dings" in the wood. Crib, delivery and set-up were over $900, but the crib was not something I was willing to compromise on even though I am generally pretty thrifty. The crib feels sturdy and solid and the edges are nice and smooth. My son seems to like stretching out in it even though he is not exactly sleeping there yet. My only quibble is that it is difficult to attach a mobile so that it hangs high enough. I am going to see if I can find another sort of mobile to hang. I did not purchase any of the other furniture in this collection as I already had a dresser and I found a beautiful white hutch at a boutique that was going out of business and the pieces look like they were made for each other! If you are not sure whether it is worth it to spend the extra money on a crib like Capretti versus the less expensive models at BRU, go shake them. I looked at the Babi Italia crib (Pinehurst) at BRU and the front rail seemed loose. The other model they had on the floor seemed rickety as well, even though they were better than most of the other models on the floor. The pieces of the cribs just did not seem to fit together as well as the pieces on the Capretti crib and I worried about falls and pinched fingers. I am quite pleased with the crib I purchased.

Merchandise arrived in substandard condition. MAJOR QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES!, May 16, 2009

Pros: Sturdy, nice looking furniture
Cons: Blemishes in the finish, warped wood, missing tracks for drawers

Furniture arrived, it looked nice enough, but with plenty of issues of which you would not suspect from new furniture. We purchased a nightstand, dresser and crib from Cappretti home. The finish was blemished, with little holes spread throughout all three items. Some of the boards on the crib were warped and in one case a hole was drilled off by 1/4". The dresser set even had a few tracks missing on the drawers on one side so the automatic closing feature does not work properly.

Bad buy, would not recommend Capretti to anyone. I contacted Capretti weeks ago for a resolution and still have not had my items repaired.

Pros: Great quality, high style
Cons: Horrible delivery and shipping times

I read many reviews and researched dozens of furniture lines before deciding on the Veneto line from Capretti Home. I based my decision on their reputation for excellent quality and the unique distressed off white finish, ignoring the advice from local retailers who had dropped their line. I live in one of the 10 largest cities in the U.S., and there are no retailers left who carry Capretti Home. Why? They all stated when I called them looking for a retailer that the company could not meet standard delivery times and was running past 16 or 17 weeks for shipping of their product. Since I was only 18 weeks pregnant when I ordered, I went ahead and found a store outside of my city to order the furniture thinking I have at least 22 weeks, and surely I wouldn't have an issue. In fact, to reassure me, I emailed the company from their website and none other than the president of the company contacted me personally to let me know they were running 4-6 week lead times. I thought I had it made! Well, as of today, I am 36 weeks pregnant and no crib in site. The other pieces are in but the crib has somehow dissappeared, and I have contacted both the store and Capretti Home and received about a dozen different stories. Being that I have ordered other items from this store, I am convinced that the crib has not been shipped from the manufacturer. DO NOT ORDER FROM CAPRETTI HOME IF YOU ARE ON A TIMELINE (and what pregnant woman isn't- I believe 40 weeks is pretty typical)!!! You do not want your little one to come home without a bed, which is the scenario I am facing. I will now be investing in a lovely bassinette to tide me over until this prepaid crib arrives, heaven knows when. I will say the nightstand is in my nursery and the quality is pretty good, especially for being made in China. But if I had to do it over, I would order from elsewhere. Good luck!!

Furniture arrived broken and with other finishing problems, January 19, 2009

Pros: Nice design
Cons: Poor quality for any price

We did a lot of research before deciding to purchase Capretti furniture. We have more modern taste and opted for the Milano collection. Our furniture arrived today (5 weeks before my due date), and the first two pieces out of the box were broken. The nightstand was broken at the base, and as a result, one of the drawers wouldn't open or close, and the entire base of the armoire had a stress fracture and some of the wood on the side of one of the drawers was warped. After those first two pieces were unwrapped, we told the delivery guys to stop opening pieces, as we did not want the furniture any longer given its shoddy quality. Also, note that nowhere in any description of the Milano did it say that the finish was "distressed", but there were clusters of small dots all over the finish that seemed to be an attempt at a distressed look. When the shop where we bought the furniture called Capretti, Capretti said that they would send out new pieces and that the furniture must have been "mishandled" in the warehouse. Capretti, given its price point, must figure out a way to have better quality control than that. We would not recommend Capretti to anyone.

Pros: Quality and styles
Cons: $$

We just bought a new nursery set for DD from Capretti and we couldn't be happier. We bought the Toscana Collection in the White finish - Convertible Crib, Bookcase and Double Dresser for about $2700. I know that the price is a little bit higher than some of the other brands that are out there, but the quality is the best that we have seen anywhere. The crib was $799, but included in that price was the toddler rail and the conversion kit to make it into a full size bed later! All of the other cribs that we looked at we would have had to buy that separately. We were also very impressed with the finish, the construction, and the style ( one that I am sure will grow with DD for years to come ). The drawers are very roomy and have an automatic closure which we love because we don't have to worry about any pinched fingers! We would definitely buy Capretti again even at the price we paid, the quality was well worth it!! A+!
