loud drop side design, November 22, 2005

Pros: attractive with heavy wood
Cons: loud drop side!

We have the Summerhaven crib model by Stanley. After owning many adult Stanley furniture pieces over the years, I was confident that this crib would be very good quality for a reasonable price. Boy was I was was wrong. Although the styling and wood quality are very good for the money (we paid $500) the drop side is very poorly engineered. In fact, I had a great deal of trouble putting this one together and we had to call the store and they sent out their crib assembler to finish installing the drop side. He mentioned this is the worst crib design he has worked on. When he did get it together it made a terrible noise when you lifted or lowered the drop side. It has hidden hardware and the wood from the drop side scrapes against the side posts. It's a terrible sound that wakes up our baby about 20% of the time we try to put her in while she is sleeping.

Another problem we had was that the crib came with two larger scratches on the top of the side rails. I noticed this as soon as we opened the box at home and called the store to get an exchange. There reply was sorry we don't exchange cribs once you open the box, even if it's defective. Ridiculous! How could I know it was defective if I didn't open the box? I asked what there policy was if a part was broken or missing and they said the same. They would order you the part and you can come and pick it up in the store. This is the worst policy I have ever heard of. A part takes 6 to 8 weeks to get from the manufacturer. In our case we got a call that they had a can of paint for us after 2 months. I will never buy anything from Bergstrom's again. (Bergstom's is a 2 store chain in Orange County, California.)

I can not recommend this crib or Bergstroms.

If you are tall enough for a fixed side crib I would recommend that. We orginally had one. The only problem was when we lowered the mattress to the bottom level my wife had trouble putting sleeping baby in as my wife is short 5'3". We now use that one at my parents house.

Pros: Nice Finishes, not too baby-ish
Cons: higher cost, not held in retailer stock.

I purchased my Young America crib about 2 1/2 months before my son was born. It was arriving as I delivered.... I really like it now that it's all set up, and I'm now starting to look at buying some additional pieces for when he's older.

my only gripe is that it's expensive (as is all baby furniture).

Pros: Looks Great and is convertable
Cons: Arrived broke, replacement is different shade and nicks VERY easily

I purchased the MyHaven convertable crib and dresser from a local baby boutique, and the service was great from the boutique, however, when the crib was delivered we noticed one of the side rails was cracked along the top, no problem we called the store and they had a new one for us in less then 2 weeks. when we took the new one out of the plastic it was a different shade entirely. Our set is white and there are different shades of white...off white, blue white, etc. the new rail was very easily noticable as a different shade, my husband noticed it and he is not very detailed oriented. We also had issues with the crib appearing to be very soft, there are several nicks and paint chips, some were already there and some came from us....we were extremeley careful! It just seems rather cheap for being such a high rated company. Also a few areas are sprayed very lightly with just 1 coat of paint.

All in all it is OK, but I would not recommend them and would rate them in the league of the lower priced furniture and next time will go ahead and spend a bit more for real quality.

Pros: Beautiful, high-quality furniture that will last for years.
Cons: Higher price and more difficult to find

We spent several months researching nursery furniture before deciding on Young America by Stanley. We chose it because it appeared to be very sturdy, well-built, and very attractive. Our goal was to buy furniture that our daughter would use for years. We bought the Serenity Built to Grow crib for $599 and the Serenity Single Dresser for $608. We ordered both from Mother Goose in Lynchburg, Va. Everything arrived in seven weeks, in perfect condition. The dresser was already assembled and the crib took my husband about an hour to assemble. You can tell that both pieces of furniture are well-made and of very good quality. The drawers are dove-tailed, deep, and open easily. The crib feels solid as a rock. I expect them to last for many years and through many moves. We had considered buying Bassett's Wendy Bellissimo collection, but the pieces were only $100 or so cheaper and did not seem nearly as well-made. Ditto for Munire. If you really desire high-quality furniture and are willing to shell out just a little bit more $$, then I would highly encourage you to consider this manufacturer and collection!

Pros: Quality, stylish, sophisticated, value, lots of options.
Cons: A little on the bulky side, crib is not a convertible...

Our furniture came in yesterday and I was so thrilled with it. I wanted to show it off to everyone. We opted to go with the Serenity sleigh crib, the door chest, and the 7-drawer dresser as opposed to the nursery dresser. You can view all of these items on their website www.stanleyfurniture .com under Young America. Anyways, I ordered my furniture without actually seeing it in person first because I have the opportunity to order from a wholesaler and was able to get it discounted tremendously. I liked the furniture a lot in the catalog but was hesitant about the trunk pieces, they seemed so plain and bland. However, when they arrived I was so happy with them, the stain on the wood is absolutely gorgeous and the detailing and quality is top-notch. I just love the furniture and would highly recommend Stanley. The only drawbacks about the furniture is that most of the pieces by Stanley are on the larger side. Also, the crib does not convert into a toddler bed, but this wasn't an option I was adament about anyway. Stanley's kid line called Young America has quite a few different and unique collections and many different options as far as trunk pieces. I just know I will be able to pass this furniture on to my grandchildren.

I received a quote from a baby specialty store for three other pieces than I had actually ended up ordering: the crib, door chest, and nursery dresser for 2250 dollars. I was able to get: the crib, door chest, and 7-drawer dresser (bigger than the nursery dresser and will end up being more efficient) for 1750 dollars. I highly recommend checking out your area to see if there are wholesalers who deal with Stanley because you can get a tremendous discount on high-quality furniture.
