Pros:
It's a gorgeous bed.
Cons:
Unfortunately Munire did not perfom the required lead-based paint testing.

NEWPORT RUBBED BLACKMy son's crib was recalled about a month ago. The only way that I found out was because I called to order the conversion kit to turn my son's bed into a full-size bed....he's 2 and a half. I was later informed, not by the retailer that I bought it from, but by another retailer, that the bed had been recalled because of a report of lead poisoning by a toddler with this bed. It seems that the red paint beneath the outer black coat of paint contained unsafe levels of lead contamination. This is the same bed, in which, my son chewed on down to the exposed wood. I called the company and they told me that they would be sending me a coupon for a replacement bed. When I got off the phone with them, I got on the website and started looking at the beds. There was nothing like my bed. I spent five months looking for a bed and waited three months for it to arrive. I went to the retailer that sold me the bed and they said there was nothing they could do. They gave me the number of their rep and told me to call him. I called the company and they directed me to Jeff Seymour in Dallas. I've been calling Jeff for a week and a half and have not gotten to speak with him yet. He had a woman call me who said he was on a trip to California and he asked her to tell me that he would call me next week when he gets back. This seems extremely unacceptable to me as the company has instructed people to immediately stop using this bed. What am I supposed to do with my 2 and a half year old son...now he is sleeping in bed with us. I know that this is going to cause him to get used to sleeping with us which is not going to make it any easier to get him back in to his bed....when he gets one.The woman told me that jeff was the only person who could approve a refund. Oh! I forgot to mention. I have a room full of black furniture that I bought at different stores and also had my own hope chest and baby rocking chairs refinished to match this bed. I told the woman that I had spent $800 on this bed and that I shouldn't have to settle for some bed that I don't like just because of the companies irresponsible mistake. She told me that if I wanted that same be so bad that I should order it in brown and then take it somewhere to have it painted to match....on my dime. I asked her if she could please contact Jeff and have him call me from his 'California Trip.' She said 'No' and then proceeded to tell me that she had this great idea. She said I should go to the store that I bought the bed from and I should ask them if they will loan me a bed for my son to use until Jeff got back. Are you kidding me???? She wants me to go ask for a bed, bring it home, put it together for a week...just because Jeff doesn't want to stand behind his product and deal with the company's mistake. I am livid. I am so disappointed that no one at Munire has helped me and everyone I've spoken to has siad...We took it off the market...We aren't require to give you your money back. I had to take my son to the doctor to get a lead poisoning test which thank goodness came back negative. I will be forwarding the bill to Jeff.I love this Munire bed until this event came about. I will never refer Munire to my family, friends, co-workers or clients. They're customer service is awful and I will be making a complaint with the BBB and including Jeff Seymour in my complaint. This is a child's crib we are talking about....They obviously aren't worried about the well-being, comfort, or safety of my son. They are a disgrace.I am still waiting to hear from Jeff Seymour.

We bought the Munire Urban crib, dresser and shelf in white. I loved the look and knew that the brand had gotten good reviews and was highly rated in the Baby Bargains 7th ed. I ordered pretty early and the place I went actually had the crib at another store so I only had to come back a week later to pick it up. The other items had to be ordered and came in about 6 weeks later. First the finish on the crib was awful. The peice along the top of what would be the headboard on a toddler bed looked like it hadn't been painted and they just boxed it up like that. There were also nicks here and there on the other parts. The other peices weren't as bad, but definitely have nicks, which the way this stuff was packed I don't know how that could happen after packing. I was very dissapointed because we paid $599 for the crib, $669 for the dresser and $559 for the shelf, so I definitely expect more for that kid of money. The place I bought the items from replaced the part of the crib that was really bad and I didn't do anything about the rest, because it wasn't bad enough to keep dealing with it.
I guess my advice would be, if you choose this line and finish get everthing early so you can replace things if necessary. Other than the issues with the finish it is a bedautiful set.

Pros:
Hardwood, solid construction, simple design
Cons:
Assembly difficult, difficult to change height of mattress
|
|
Bought the crib after reading review in Baby Bargains. Overall, very happy with the look and quality of the crib. It's very sturdy and I have no doubt that it will last.My 2 minor complaints are (1) there was glue in the metal taps which made it difficult to get the screws in. We had to hammer out the glue to complete assembly. (2) In order to adjust the mattress height, the front panel of the crib has to be taken off, then the spring platform has to be manually adjusted.Purchased the Emma Lifetime Crib in rubbed black. Was on sale at a local baby store for $449.

Pros:
Quality - hardwood construction, beautiful finish.
Cons:
Very long delays in shipping from factory.
|
|
We purchased the lifetime crib, 6 drawer dresser, chifferobe, and conversion kit in mid-February of 2006. We paid approximately $2700 for all the pieces, and selected the cherry finish, which is apparently not the most frequently purchased. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the furniture, and feel like it will last him until college and even beyond. Our only complaint is the long shipping delays - the crib and dresser arrived at 10 weeks, but it was another 10 weeks before we received the chifferobe, and likely won't get the conversion kit for 6 weeks after that. We would definitely recommend this furniture to our friends and family, but be sure that you go through a reputable dealer you can trust implicitly.

Pros:
Traditional look, durable, good selection of items
Cons:
Price - a little higher than some but not the highest
|
|
We purchased in March 2005 a munire crib, nightstand, tall dresser, and long dresser with mirror and hat (which can become another nightstand later). So far I have no complaints. I believe ours is the Charleston in cherry, and it was exactly the look we were wanting and having trouble finding. My husband and I put the crib together pretty easily, to our surprise. We hope a toddler rail will be available when she gets bigger - at the time we bought it they weren't out yet. Our biggest hurdle with this was getting it at all - we're in N.O. LA and no one around (at the time, no one in LA at all) sold these. We got from a store in Houston near where my brother lived.
