Good looking crib, terrible rail operation, September 5, 2008

Pros: Attractive, sturdy
Cons: Rail operation is very loud and clunky. Drawer is cheaply made and just collects dust.

We purchased a Bonavita Peyton crib for our nursery. It is a nice looking crib, seems sturdy, and was easy to put together. The drawer is totally cheap and is a dust collector, we took it off before our baby was even born. My big complaint is the side rail. The mechanism to click it into the up position is very clumsy and loud. It doesn't matter how careful I am, it makes a clunking noise on one side or the other. I have a light sleeping baby who takes a long time to get settled. It is maddening when the stupid side rail wakes her up when I've finally gotten her down. Also, it doesn't disengage smoothly when you try to put it down. I spent a little more for this crib expecting a higher quality product.

Babi Italia Pinehurst Single Crib Malfunction, concern for infant safety, August 26, 2008

Pros: Nice finish (We purchased the crib in espresso)
Cons: Malfunctioning drop-side rail is dangerous

I rarely write reviews however We purchased the Babi Italia Pinehurst Crib (Single model, not lifetime) 1 yr ago. Since my baby was born we have had problems with the drop side sticking a bit, but thought nothing of it. A few days ago we had put our baby to bed and when they woke up in the middle of the night and pulled up on the side rail, the bottom pins popped out, causing the top of the rail to pivot in towards the crib, and the bottom to pivot out. I went into my baby's room when I heard them crying, only to be able to find their head sticking above the mattress, with their entire small body trapped between the drop side rail and the mattress. Thank God our baby was not injured. We have contacted the manufacturing company and they are sending out new bottom pins and the track for the drop side, however I am concerned if this happens to someone else that a child could be injured or killed because of the faulty mechanism.

Babi Italia - Scandi Crib & Combo - VERY happy!, January 22, 2008

Pros: Good quality for the money, excellent shipping
Cons: As with any white painted furniture, will probably get scratched & nicked over time.

We just received our Scandi crib and combo dresser this week and LOVE them! My husband and I work in the furniture industry and were so impressed with the quality of their packaging - the best we have ever seen & we see a lot! Ordering through Babies R Us was easy, once we persisted that this series did exist and that they could order it (it's new). It arrived sooner than expected and with not a scratch or dent on it! Dresser arrives assembled and my husband did not have much trouble putting the crib together, but he's good at this type of thing. He did notice two mistakes in the manufacturer's instructions, but was able to figure it out. FYI - don't tighten the screws all the way when installing the dropside side or it will be too tight for it to slide into place. Tighten after you get it on. The crib also has a drawer underneath, which I couldn't tell from the pic/info on Babi Italia's website. The dropside does not operate quite as smoothly or quietly as the Bonavita Peyton we also looked at, but this was the style we wanted. At least not loud like the Morigeau mechanism. Much less expensive than Nurseryworks or Netto, but similar look. The crib was $400 and the combo was $500.

Babi Italia Pinehurst Single Crib - Wonderful Purchase!, December 29, 2006

Pros: hidden hardware, spring mattress support, quiet rail-release
Cons: ??? Nothing I can think of!

I purchased the Babi Italia Pinehurst Single Crib in Tea Stain in November 2006 from Babies R Us in Houston, TX. I paid $299.99 plus tax (I think it came to about $325). NOTE - This is not the convertible Pinehurst Crib shown on the Babi Italia website. It is a "traditional-style" crib with a single drop side and does not convert to a toddler or full-size bed. It is also not featured on the BRU website, but it's available in the stores.

I think this crib is absolutely perfect. It has hidden hardware (something that was lacking on similar-priced models at Target and BRU), a 3-position adjustable mattress, and a spring mattress support. It also comes with casters for the legs, but we left them off as I think it looks nicer without them. It was extremely easy to assemble - DH and I put it together in about 20 minutes (with me being very pregnant and not good with instructions).

The crib features a knee-push release on the drop-side, which is very easy to use and is perfectly quiet. We're both pretty tall, so I don't know how often we'll use it, but it's nice to have if we need it. The crib feels very sturdy (no, it's not quite as "solid" feeling as cribs that don't have a drop side, but it still feels quite adequate to hold up to any abuse a baby or toddler could give it).

I had worried that the wood would scratch easily, since the crib is made of pine. We had no problems with this during assembly, and I think it should be fine with the baby (we're planning to put teething rails on it).

I am absolutely thrilled with this purchase. For someone who is looking for a nice, simple crib, you can't go wrong with the Babi Italia Pinehurst Single Crib!

Pros: the store i bought if from gave me a full refund
Cons: the dropside was defective

I had a Bonavita Hudson crib. I'm pretty handy, put it together and the dropside came out. i figured maybe i hadn't assembled quite right, so paid a fee for the store i bought it from to come a do an assembly. never felt quite right about it and one day i noticed it had become totally lopsided and the dropside was not secure at all. there was no obvious "defect" to me. everthing seemed to be intact -- just a horrible design flaw. the store i bought if from took it back (they seemed familiar with the problem). i'm shocked that this brand has such good reviews (must have been why i chose it in the first place). i know it's hard to choose a crib, but i'd really steer away from this brand, or at minimum this model.
