Great safety ratings but not in love with it, July 13, 2005

Pros: Like the use of a base and that it matches my P3
Cons: Horrible sun shade and quite heavy

We've just been using this for 3 weeks now, but I am disappointed in the day-to-day use of it. I'm not a small person and realize I'm a bit out of shape from 9 months of pregnancy, but it really seems heavy to carry around. We are also struggling with the (basically lack of) sun shade. He's always got a blanket thrown over the whole thing as it doesn't keep any light out. I really hate doing that though do to lack of ventilation. Lastly on the cons....it might just be that we are new to it, but we have a heck of a time getting it latched into the P3 stroller.

Since Jake travels in two cars the base system is very nice and installed fairly easily and it gets great safety ratings. He also seems rather comfortable so the safety and comfort still make it an ok purchase.

Pricey, but a reliable, apparently comfortable seat, June 10, 2005

Pros: Easy to use, pretty fabric, baby seemed comfortable in it.
Cons: Cost. Cost. Did I mention COST?

When we were shopping for a car seat before our baby was born, there was a recall on Graco Snugrides, and you could not buy one anywhere (oh yes, you could get one off the shelf at TRU, but when you got to the register, the register would say "no, you can't have that!") . The BabyTrend Latch-Loc had just come out, hence it was an unknown. We were getting the Peg Perego Pliko stroller, so just decided to get this car seat, as we knew it would snap in easily to the stroller. One trip to BRU and we were done. That is the story of why we spent way too much on an infant seat.

I think he grew out of it at about 5 months. We never had any problems with it, and he always seemed comfortable. I read that it can't be used without the base, but that never became a problem for us.

Overall, it did its job, but I think we could have saved $75-$100 and got a cheaper infant seat. This item is my major purchase regret from when we were paranoid parents-to-be!

Perfect infant carrier for compact cars, June 10, 2005

Pros: This carrier fits perfectly into very tight spaces.
Cons: Tall/long babies will outgrow it quickly.

My Viaggio was the only carrier I could find to fit in the back of our compact car. We purchased the Martinelli version, which has upgraded cotton fabric covering. It is incredibly soft, washed well, kept our child cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The Viaggio also fit easily into most restaurant booths (a tight squeeze for larger carriers). The only down fall was that our daughter outgrew the seat at about 6 months old because of her height. Other car seats accommodated her length until about 8 months old. For the money I would have liked the carrier to last longer, however the quality of the product made it worth the expense.

Great infant seat, April 5, 2007

Pros: safe, easy to install, great for a preemie
Cons: canopy, ht limit (our's is a 2005)

We bought a 2005 model at the end of 2005 b/c it was on sale for $125 ish. Overall it's been a great purchase. I love that it snaps into the peg stroller (pliko p3 which I LOVE) and that you can buy a separate base for other cars. It ended up being the best purchase b/c our daughter came early and was tiny. She looked secure in it even at 4lb 12oz. My daughter is on the smaller side and still outgrew the height limit at 7 1/2 months . Our model's height limit was 26inches, but I've seen the newer models have higher limits. The only thing I didn't care for with this model was the canopy. It was difficult to install, use and gave little shade. But we used the stroller shade over her (which is a wonderful canopy) most of the time anyway. We rarely used the canopy .. had no need when she was not snapped into the stroller.

overall, both the infant seat and stroller have held up great. I would recommend them to anyone. The infant seat hasn't faded considering how often we've cleaned it, it's great. There is a lot of cushion to it, which was fine with our little peanut (she stays around 3rd percentile for weight), but I don't know that friends who have large (90th percentile) babies could have fit them in it for long. Again, this is the 2005 model. I know there have been improvements on the 2007 models... I almost want to buy one for our new baby that's due soon. But our original has held up so well, that there's really no need to buy another.

WARNING to all owners newer model Peg Perego SIP 30/30 Infant Seats, November 6, 2008

Pros: Sturdy
Cons: SAFETY TERRIBLE, DANGEROUS!

WARNING to all owners newer model Peg Perego SIP 30/30 Infant Seats. It has two major defects.

1> Defective part causes cuts on baby’s heels and legs. 2> Defective latch can cause seat to fall out of Pliko P3 stroller and have baby land on ground.

Peg Perego’s SIP 30/30 Infant seat is defective and they have not made registered customers aware of it. They are not taking responsibility for the safety of the children using this seat. They have been aware of the first issue since the beginning of summer 2008.

The first issue with the seat causes cuts. We discovered lacerations on our son’s ankles for over a month but could not figure out what was causing them. On a road trip we discovered a large bleeding gash on the back of his ankle about ¼ the size of a DIME. We traced the source to the SIP 30/30 car seat’s plastic strap cover near the feet. There was blood on the cover and the edges were sharp enough to cut my finger. When I called Peg Perego, it took over an hour to get through to their customer service. Once I did, I discovered over 50 children have already been injured and they anticipate FOUR THOUSAND seats could have this issue. DO NOT follow their instructions to remove the plastic cover until receiving the replacement. The metal latch further cut up the back of our son’s legs while waiting for the part. It took almost 4 DAYS to get the part from them instead of shipping it priority overnight.

It is Peg Perego’s RESPONSIBILITY to inform registered seat users of this dangerous issue, yet they have done NOTHING to warn people. Not even an e-mail. They plan to ship the parts when they have replacement. It has been almost 5 months since they first learned about the issue. How many more children will be injured before they make the public aware of this defect. Since discovering this issue, I have told every parent I see with this car seat about this issue. Their response is normally “I was wondering where those cuts where coming from.”

The second issue with the seat is latching into Peg Perego’s Pliko P3 stroller. The infant seat has two possible latch points. We attached the seat to the stroller using the outside latch. We heard both sides of the seat “click” as explained. While pushing the cart the infant seat fell off the stroller and landed on the sidewalk with our son head down and screaming. We were lucky the stroller wasn’t stopped by a street where it could have fallen in front of a car. The fact it can even latch to something that will not hold the seat, much less EASILY latch, is a SERIOUS design defect that is extremely dangerous to children. It could be fatal.

Peg Perego needs to take responsibility for their poorly designed products and let people know about these issues. Hopefully as a buyer you will review this and evaluate if their products are safe for your children before buying and they are injured.
