Pros:
Easy to use, easy to install, built-in leveling indicator, infant insert/head padding included
Cons:
Cost, fabric doesn't "breathe" so baby can get hot
|
|
I agonized over whether to get the KeyFit or the Graco SafeSeat1 for my son, and we ended up going with the KeyFit because my husband liked the Cortina stroller that comes with the travel system best. I am completely satisfied (and, actually, thrilled) with our decision to go with the KeyFit. My son loves his seat, and it's been very convenient for us.This seat could not be easier to use -- especially with the built-in leveling device. We have a base installed in each of our cars, and installation of each was so quick, we kept rereading the instruction manual to make sure we hadn't missed something. It's easy to get the baby in and out of the actual seat. Both the seat buckle and the bases give a loud click so you know that they've locked. My only complaint about the seat (besides the cost -- $150 for a seat my son could only use 7-8 months -- and that's really not that bad) is that the fabric from which the cover is made doesn't breathe well. Because my son is hot-natured, we had a couple instances during the summer where he broke out with heat rash after long car rides. We put a cloth diaper behind his head for long trips, and that reduced the problem. Cleaning the cover has not been a problem, but we've only spot-cleaned it, not tried to put it in the washing machine.I used to complain that the KeyFit30 came out about a month after my son was born, but, given how long he is, he's going to outgrow the seat by height before he hits the weight limit of the 22-lber... and it's got great height on the strap positions. I just have a kid who's in the 90th percentile for height. My son is within about an inch of outgrowing the seat, and my husband is not looking forward to dealing with the convertibles after the ease of the KeyFit.

Pros:
Easy install;leaving handle UP when driving; newborn padding
Cons:
sunshade is a joke
|
|
This was our first baby, and first carseat. I did lots of research and compulsive reading of reviews. Keyfit was a clear, clear winner. We tested the install in our cars (Passat 2002, Pontiac Sunfire 2000) and it fit fine in both. Our 50%ile baby fits great in the seat. In those first few weeks, having the newborn padding that came with the seat was just wonderful. It help her fit more snugly when she was so very tiny, and I was happy to know we were using a safe option instead of an after-market product to make her more comfortable.Clicking the straps into the buckle took a little practice but once you do it a couple times, it's super easy -- much easier than some other buckles I've seen. It IS hard to keep the straps to the side as you put baby in the seat, though -- I always have to dig them out from under baby after putting her in the seat. I like the fact that you push a button and then pull the straps snug. It is easy to do and encourages that I am restraining baby properly into the carseat each and every time. Much better than a strap whose length would need re-setting from time to time.I love love love the fact that you can leave the handle up with this carseat (it has been crash tested this way). I didn't understand how useful this would be when I bought the seat. The install is indeed very easy. But I've never installed any other carseat so I don't know how much easiER it is than the other brands.Hate the sunshade -- it's really ridiculously small.I purchased this as part of a travel system with the C1 stroller from albeebaby for $299. I bought an older pattern on clearance but was a bit dismayed that my carseat was dated August 2005 (purchased in January 2007!). So I've lost 1.5 years of use on my carseat. I guess that just means we have to have our next kids pretty quickly :)

Pros:
Easy to Install, Easy to Use (strap in), Newborn Insert and Headrest Included, 30 lb. Weight Limit
Cons:
Fabric Not Breathable
|
|
We have the Chicco Keyfit 30 for our son and love this seat. It was a snap to install in both cars and it is really easy to get our baby in and out of the seat. I especially like how to tighten and release the straps. Our son is very comfortable and falls asleep almost every time we are in the car. You can also leave the handle up when driving, which is very convenient. This car seat does fit with the Snap n Go frames so it makes a quick travel system on the go. The only negative is the fabric tends to make our son a little sweaty. This has only recently become an issue as the weather has gotten warmer. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase and will be lending this seat out to my future nephew later this year.

Pros:
Straps easy to operate, cushy and safe for baby
Cons:
$$, a bit heavy
|
|
We paid $150 for this seat in the Notting Hill pattern at a small baby boutique. Their price was originally much higher but we talked them down after showing them how much BRU was selling the seat for; they really wanted the business and were willing to match the price. We bought from them because I had my heart set on the Notting Hill and couldn't find it anywhere else.We decided on this seat after extensive research. Engineer DH was extremely impressed with the seat and the way it was put together compared with others: the way the straps adjusted so easily as DS grew, the extra padding, the way the seat installed so easily, everything. We also got great feedback from the State Trooper / Car Seat Tech who checked our install. He hadn't seen the seat in person (this was back in March) but had heard great things about it and was really impressed with it after he played around with it in our car for a while.Day to day, I liked that the straps were so simple to tighten and did not twist at all, ever. Now that DS has outgrown this seat and is in a Britax Decathlon, I really miss the ease of tightening down the straps on this seat -- don't get me wrong, the Britax is great, but the KeyFit was even smoother. We didn't use this seat very long (4 1/2 months) as DS is a BIG boy, but I loved every minute of it. I will say that by the end, it was getting a little heavy with him in it, but that is going to happen with any seat once your child approaches the weight limit.Another thing we liked was that the handle is able to stay locked in the "up" position while you are driving. In most seats, you are technically supposed to put the handle down when you get in the car. This is just a small thing, but it made life easier on a day-to-day basis not to be constantly moving the handle around. We never did use the seat without the base so I can't comment on that.We also have the Chicco C1 stroller and loved how easily and securely the seat snapped in.

Pros:
easy to install
Cons:
made in China
|
|
We bought this carseat because 1st it had excellent reviews and high safety ratings, but 2nd (and least important) because it was an "Italian" brand- come to find out it was made in China. But really, I coudn't be happier with our purchase. My daughter is about to turn 1 in a couple weeks and we can still use it. We just transitioned to a convertible seat- only b/c Britax had a sale on their seats a few weeks ago. But we still use the Keyfit 30 in our second car. It's about the easiest seat to install, from the click Latch things, to the thing that pops out from the bottom to level it and the built in level. Not to mention that it fits in the Baby Trend stroller frame as well as our Phil and Teds sport travel system.
