Pros: Same, excellent customer service!
Cons: None, yet

My husband and I are expecting our first child in a few weeks and some friends of ours lent us their Britax Companion infant seat to use. When we went to install it, it became evident that they hadn't stored it very well for the last year. The piece on the base that locks the seat belt into place was broken. I called Britax customer service to see if I could just get a replacement piece or if I had to purchase a whole new base. The lady at Britax was extremely nice and explained to me that they no longer made the base that would fit our seat. She then explained that they were going to send us a whole new one (seat and base) free of charge. I was shocked and obviously very pleased. I'm amazed that I didn't even have to pay for shipping. She never even asked how the piece got broken. I will never buy another brand of car seat just because of their amazing customer service.

Pros: Good Safety Ratings, Easy Instalation
Cons: Weight Limit, and Price

I ordered this seat from a local supplier way before my baby was born because when my first was born I couldn't find one of these seats for love or money. When i got it home I took it out of the box to admire it. The first thing i noticed it was almost impossible for me to snap it in to the base unless i got on top of it. Then i had to really yank it to get it to pop back out. I tried using the directions and doing it from every angle i could think of. Anyone who has had an infant knows, they can very upset from the least amount of jarring so this really worried me. The next thing I noticed was the seat seemed small and cramped. My fisrt son was a large baby and outgrew his snugride in height at 3.5 months. I love my roundabout and marathon and really wanted to use this seat, but in the end I just couldn't get past the price. For that price, i wanted something that worked really well. Then the Graco Safeseat came out. So I ended up returning this one to the store and buying the SafeSeat. It was cheaper, had good safety rating, a new VERY easy instalation system, and a higher weight limit. If you interested in seeing how that worked out, I reviewd the Graco SafeSeat too.

***Update***10/12/06 I paid $213 for this seat. After a fiasco with the Graco Safeseat (will not go into that here). I went back and bought this seat again. What can I say, in actual use I really like this seat. The seat weight is the only thing I don't like( and of course the price) but this is what worked best for us in the long run. It installed in under five mins and it was really tight, no movement. If I had it do over again I would have kept this one. By the way, this newer model has no problems being snaped in and out of the base.

Pros: Very Safe, Inflatable infant pillow, Easy to install
Cons: None...

We love our Companion, Britax in general is a fabulous company. This was the only seat (to my knowledge) on the market w/ an inflatable head support for newborns. Everywhere we went we saw newborns with a little balled up receiving blanket, in place of this to add support for their babies. The seat was easy to install, comes in great colors and is about the same size and weight of other seats. Definitely my #1 choice of infant seats.

Safe but clunky, November 10, 2005

Pros: Feels solid High height/weight limit Side-impact cushion
Cons: Heavy. Nonstandard size.

I ordered this item online for about $170. However, it is also carried in specialty stores in my city (I live in Chicago) so I was able to check it out in person before registering for it. I have it in a windowpane check, which I love, but which, I believe, is no longer being manufactured.

Pros: I feel like this carseat is really solid. The first time I saw a Graco up close, I couldn't believe how light and plasticky it seemed in comparison to my Britax. I like the side-impact cushions, and the fact that the length goes up to 30 inches. DS is 6 months old and in the 90th percentile for length, but we're still going strong.

Cons: With stability, you lose portability. With a baby in it, this thing is heavy. I quit carrying my baby everywhere in it around 3 months because it's just not that portable. A related issue is that, based on my research, this carseat does not fit into the Snap and Go-type strollers. However, it does fit into my Inglesina Zippy stroller just fine and it matches quite well also. We live in a three-floor walkup and I did carry this up and down the stairs for quite a while. My husband likes to joke that it's not the carseat that became heavier -- it's the baby. It's also probably more ergonomic to wear your baby once he/she gets bigger anyway, so that's what we do now. I like my windowpane check fabric, but I don't think they're making it any more. Britax does not nearly have the fabric selections for the Companion that Graco does for its infant seats.

As to the previous poster's comment about problems snapping the carseat into the base: we have not encountered that. We do not assume the car seat is secure unless there is an audible click. Sometimes one side latches in and the other doesn't when it's put in unevenly....I just take it out and put it back in again one more time to hear the click to be sure. We have used our carseat constantly for six months and have not experienced a degradation in ability to click the carseat into the base.

Pros: head and side impact protection
Cons: weight

Ok, I will admit that this is an extemely heavy seat when comparing it to the snugride or other infant seats, but I have total faith that if there was a collision that my child's head would be protected. And that's really what it came down to for us--safety.

We bought the companion ($199) just a few weeks before she was born (March 2004). It had just come out and I was waiting for it to hit the online stores. My main concern was safety and I thought this seat fit the bill because it was lined in EPS foam. The pro of this seat was that we used it for 10 months (22 lbs/30 in) and yes she did look smooshed in there towards the end, but the convenience of taking the seat out of the car when she was sleeping and bringing her into the house outweighted moving her into a convertible seat.

As for locking it into the base, I always waited to hear the snaps and then I would jiggle it to make sure it was secure. If I didn't put the seat back into the car base square I did have to take a half a second and make sure it snapped into place, but this was never a big deal to me.

I'm due with #2 New Years 2006 and look forward to using the seat again.
