Pros:
Super easy installation
Cons:
Covers can get a little hot

I already own a Britax RA, but bought the Marathon for my eldest daughter. The installation is a complete snap. I love that DD can be in it till 65 lbs. She's a small munchkin at 25lbs (she's 2-1/2yo), so we will have a lot of time before moving onto a booster.Hands down, this is the greatest seat.

Pros:
Plush, sturdy, safe, easy to use, great patterns
Cons:
None

I bought the cow pattern from albeebaby.com in early 2005 for around $200-219. I was commuting with my baby on a dangerous highway, so we had to have the best - and this is it. Easy to insall, straps are easy to use and never tangle, doesn't show dirt/wear.We used this rear facing until my son was about 15 months. I like the high weight limits. Some people think the crotch buckle is too far back (not giving enough room in the crotch fro the child), but I don't see any problem with it. We have a lot of room to grow. It's like a papsan chair for my child. He has been very comfy in it both rear and forward facing. It is much more plush than our second car seat, a Regal Ride from Target. This is about the best baby product we have purchased.

Pros:
Rear-facing for a long time, easy to install
Cons:
May not fit in some cars; heavier than many convertibles
|
|
We have been using this seat for 10 months and have been very pleased with it. We have taken it on 5 roundtrip airplane flights and have both gate checked it and used it on the plane. It has been pretty easy to install in all the various vehicles (private cars, taxi cabs, airplanes, SUVs), especially when we've been short on time. I suspect we might have trouble installing it in some smaller cars, though we haven't run across that problem yet. It is a somewhat heavy car seat and hauling it through the airport when short on time has sometimes been an issue, but we recently discovered that carrying it as a backpack makes it very easy to transport. We have not yet had any issues with installing it rearfacing on the plane.DD appears to be quite comfortable in the seat and although she doesn't always sleep in it, she doesn't fight getting into the seat. We've gone on trips as long as 3 hours and she always seems fine. I love the single adjustment strap in the front that allows you to easy strap the toddler into the harness, and then you can tighten in one pull (it also makes a fascinating baby toy )We have so far used it rear facing (DD is 16 months) and will continue to do so until she either reaches 33 pounds or grows too tall to be rear facing. For now, she seems happily situated with the rear facing position. One of the primary reasons we chose this car seat was so that we could keep her rear facing for as long as possible. A second reason is that we can keep her in the 5 point harness even after she turns forward facing (up to 65 pounds). We are very pleased with this car seat and will probably purchase a similar one for future babies. However, I would probably not use this seat for newborn infants just because the harness system, even on the lowest setting, would probably be too big for the infant.

Pros:
Comfortable, easy to install, large height/weight range
Cons:
may not fit comfortably in smaller cars
|
|
I purchased a Marathon when my son outgrew his infant seat. Paid about $240 with an online retailer. I got the "cow" pattern. My son LOVES the seat. It is roomy, the fabric is plush and comfy, and he'll be in the seat for quite some time. My baby was particularly tall (100th percentile in height! Yipes!) so he outgrew his infant seat VERY quickly. If you've got a string bean (long and lean) on your hands, a seat like this is a MUST.Britax has the right idea, making the seats fairly goof-proof to install, particularly if you have a LATCH system (as new cars in the US are now required to). Just a click to the left, a click to the right, pull the straps taut and the seat is ready to use. Given that the #1 safety issue with car seats is that parents usually install them wrong, this is wise on their part.An added bonus that you may not know -- GoGoBabyz makes an add-on product for Britax seats that converts them into essentially a rolling baby mover for travel -- the product is essentially a plastic plate with and extendable handle and a pair of durable 4 inch composite wheels that attaches to the back of the seat. I used it recently to take my baby on a trip and it was WONDERFUL! Instead of lugging a car seat AND a stroller to get baby through the airport, and wondering how I could manage all that and luggage too, I could wheel my baby in the comfort of his car seat right up to the gate, wheel it right up to my seat, use the car seat for my baby's seat on the plane, and then wheel him right off, install the car seat into the rental and drive away. All while pushing a full sized samsonite suitcase, too. If you travel at all with your baby and have a Britax seat, find this product and spring for it (about $90) -- it's heaven.Overall, Britax clearly is the best on the market, even if it isn't the cheapest. The only problem with the Marathon is that it's extra length may make it a poor choice for some cars. If you drive a smaller sedan or hatchback, you might consider the Roundabout instead. If however, like me, you have a stringbean, the added length in the Marathon is invaluable.

Pros:
Easy installation, washable fabric, easy adjust straps
Cons:
Limited fabric choices
|
|
We bought the Marathon for our son when he turned 4 months old and looked cramped in his infant car seat. We were very pleased to see him so happy and relaxed in the new, larger seat! He appreciated the extra space right away, so we knew we had made the right choice. We install this seat in our VW Passat Wagon with the LATCH, and I find it very simple to install safely and correctly. The rear-facing installation actually gave us more space behind the front seats than our infant seat did. I've always found the installation very secure and stable.I've flown with the Marathon once and was able to install it on the plane with little problem. The price is high, but I wouldn't choose any other seat for my child. The high weight limit means we can use this seat for a LONG time...so it's a great investment!Fortunately, we've never put it to a "real" test in an accident.I'd like to see Britax roll out some new fabrics though, all the current ones seem so bland. Otherwise, I really have no complaints and plan on buying another Marathon for our next baby as well!
