Pros:
So Light
Cons:
Vinyl seems kind of tacky -- but who cares? no one sees it.

as per the BB book, I went with a Colgate Classica for my baby. To be honest, I don't care much about mattresses. I mean, as long as my baby sleeps well and safely, then I'm done thinking about a crib mattress. This is a good, basic, no-frills (literally and figuratively!) mattress.I thought I would be bothered by the vinyl covering. I assume I would hear it as I laid DD down and got her up from the crib, etc. And vinyl just seems cheap-ish. Well, you can't hear it, at all, and trust me I've got very sensitive ears. I just use a sheetsaver and then a sheet over the mattress (i.e. I do not have a "mattress pad")... so there is not a whole lot between baby and the mattress, but everyone's happy and she sleeps well -- so who cares that it's vinyl? It's not like I have to look at it.And I have a feeling that when she has her first leaky diaper in bed, then I will extra-happy that the mattress is vinyl.I had heard about how it's easier to change sheets on a foam mattress but I didn't really give that much weight in my mattress selection. Well once we got the crib assembled and had to shimmy the mattress into the crib (it fits snugly in my Baby's Dream crib, like it is supposed to) -- and I thought about having to change the sheets on my own -- then I realized how very grateful I was that the foam mattress is so light. I would have hated to be lifting one of those coil mattresses just to change a sheet!

Pros:
LOVE the sheets
Cons:
Poor stitching on bumpers and skirts; bumper didn't fit crib
|
|
I bought the skirt and bumper from what is now a discontinued collection (it had an elephants, monkeys and giraffe theme). I absolutely LOVE the Gap crib sheets; they come in more grownup colors and styles which is exactly what I was looking for. I also like the fact that you can match items across some of their collections because the colors are the same. The sheets have elastic all the way around and are of excellent quality. Gap also occasionally has sales where you can get a good deal on sheets (2 for $17.50 each, instead of $24 each), and there's always free shipping on orders over $100. While I was buying maternity clothes from them I would often get coupon codes sent to me from the Gap for 15% off which made the deals even better. Their return/exchange policy is very generous. I have an '01 Pali crib and the bumper ties just really didn't tie properly to the crib so I returned it. At $78 I expected a much better fit. The bumpers seemed too floppy at the midspan between the ties for my liking. Also, the crib skirt is pretty flimsy (all things considered) with screened prints instead of something more substantial, but it looks really nice with the whole setup. I didn't buy any other pieces from the collection like quilts or blankets because they're (IMO) very overpriced. But, I LOVE the sheets, and that's what really drew me to the Gap in the first place.

I can't get a full review of the Gap bedding since I'm still 8 weeks out from my due date, and a first time mom. But I ordered the bumper, sheets, skirt and the fleece blanket from the barnyard collection. I already have our crib set up, so I've washed one of the sheets I bought for the crib, as well as the fleece blanket. The sheets are very smooth (I wouldn't mind to have a set for myself) - they aren't rough at all, and they have elastic all the way around for a nice snug fit. The only disappointment is that there is a little embroidered scene at the bottom of the crib skirt. On one side some of the threads are a little loose. I could have sent it back, but didn't because the crib is against the wall, so that's the side I put to the wall, and you'd really have to be laying on the floor to notice the loose threads anyway. The bumper is plush without being too thick. I'm contimplating sending it back however. There is nothing wrong with it, but the ties don't seem to line up with my crib slats and secondly, if I really don't need it, it seemed a bit expensive for $88, although it's cute. The fleece blanket is super soft. I've only washed it once, and it turned out great. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. It was a bit more expensive that other bedding options, but I didn't want one of those 6 piece sets either...just a few pieces. Luckily someone on the message board shared with me a code for 30% off at Gap, so between the discount, shipping, and tax, I paid $199 for 2 sheets, a fleece blanket, crib skirt and bumper.
