Pros:
Great custom look for the $$$
Cons:
Wish the fitted sheet was a little less expensive
|
|
I was about to give up and spend a lot of money on custom bedding for my little baby boy when I opened Baby Bargains to see if there was a store I hadn't thought of. I didn't want anything with a theme - just a simple polka dot in blue or green. I was delighted to find the Down East set. I ordered: Down East Sky Dot Crib Bumper ($79), Dust Ruffle (box-pleat 14" drop) ($59), Down East Sky Stripe Crib Fitted Sheet ($29), Down East Sky Twirl Contoured Changing Pad Cover ($24). Total $203.95 with shipping.I ordered my bedding on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday. I couldn't believe how quickly it came. Everything arrived exactly as it was shown and the quality was perfect. The skirt and the bumber fit my crib (Munire - Essex) very well and I love the fitted sheet with the elastic all around.I am so happy to find a store that offers simple baby designs at a fairly reasonable price.

Pros:
Beautiful and unusual.
Cons:
Bumper doesn't fit standard size crib well. Expensive!

I thought the pricing on this line was quite expensive, though the fabric quality & designs are excellent. I love the fabrics, the designs, the colors, the all-around elastic on cribs sheets, and the nice padding on the bumper and in the quilt, but I thought $279 was a lot of money for a four piece set (included crib skirt and one crib sheet). Extra crib sheets cost $19 each. I launder the bedding on gentle, in cold water and line dry. I have machine-dried the sheet on low a few times without noticable shrinkage. The bumper isn't quite long enough to fit my standard-sized Jenny Lind crib. In fact, it is so short I couldn't tie it to both ends of the crib. I had to tie one end of the bumper to the bars on the SIDE of the crib (as opposed to the actual END of the crib). I didn't shrink the bumper, it came that way! I was surprised that it didn't quite fit because of the price. As a middle-class person, I know many people who would have found the price prohibitive. We're talking about cotton, not silk! Fortunately for me, two relatives went together and purchased the bedding as a baby shower gift. I was happy to recieve this as a gift because I just love the red ladybugs. The design compliments my black, white & red nursery very well. I chose plain gingham trim, although I could have chosen white ruffle trim for a more frilly, feminine look. Many people have complimented the bedding. It is whimsical without being baby-ish.

I turned to this line as a last resort. I had picked out all of my bedding at Babystyle, only to have it discontinued! I was having a really hard time with our dd's room. We live in a small house, and I really wanted the baby's room to fit in with the rest of our house. I didn't want anything overly frilly, beary, ducky, bunnyish or pink. Everything in the stores made me want to gag, and ironically, the simpler it was, the more expensive it was. I checked out Baby Bedding Online one night (about 4am, when I couldn't sleep because I hadn't bought anything and was freaking out) and really wasn't overly ecstatic with what they had they had to offer. Then, I looked down at the persian rug on our floor and had the sort of epiphany you can only have when you are sleep deprived. I ordered samples of the black toile and the burgandy crib sheets. The samples came really quickly and were easy to order. They were perfect. You are probably having the same reaction my mother did when I told her what colors I was using, but it came out fantastic! The toile is black and cream (it's actually the central park pattern Graco used on some of their things last year). I used the toile on the bed skirt, bumper, quilt, valance and changing pad cover. I purchased the burgandy crib sheets. I was able to get a Dutalier rocker and ottoman in the same pattern and used cranberry velvet curtains for her room. I hung a cream chandelier and wall sconces with cranberry glass crystals on them, and used cherry furniture. The room is so cozy, beautiful, and sophisticated. When my nieces were here for Thanksgiving (ages 5-12), they all wanted to play in dd's room and asked their mom if they could have a room like that. Ordering was really easy and I even had some special requests which came out just fine. They shipped really quickly and the quality has been great. I used the quilt for my daughter to play on before she was mobile. It's been washed a ton, along with the sheets and have still held up well. I think I paid about $400.00 for everything. One of my friends paid about $800 for her bedding at a local store and that was just the bumper, quilt, and skirt. Hers has not held up as well as mine, mine still looks new! I'd highly reccommend them if you find a pattern you like.P.S. My Mom (who is an interior designer, and thought the room was going to be awful) now keeps pictures to show to clients.

Cons:

I got the Kelly check. Fairly masculine without resorting to trucks, sports, etc. I liked the fact that you could order a set with a blanket instead of the standard quilt. Paid ~ $160

I do not recall the price I paid, but it was a GOOD deal. They will send you fabric samples for free. They have a large selection to choose from.I do regret getting a set with a bumper pad. My daughter was rolling across her crib at 4 weeks old and my pediatrician told me to get the bumper out. If I make another purchase for a later child I will buy my items separately to avoid the bumper pad.The sheets are nice and soft. 100% cotton with elastic all the way around. The fitted sheets are $19 each. You can also buy accessories that match. I got a lampshade that matches. If I ever need to buy additional sheets or a new set for a second child I will buy from babybeddingonline again.
