Fat bumper cushions floppy heads, June 2, 2006

Pros: The plush bumper and beautiful embroidery
Cons: Haven't found a problem yet

I gave a lot of thought to whether the fat bumper on the African Plains bedding set would be a pro or a con. I thought it might turn into a step when my son becomes a climber, or it might cushion his head from the bars of my metal crib. So far, it's been nothing short of a blessing. I've seen him stand at the side of his crib, do a dead fall backwards (his idea of fun, not mine!) and plunge into the cusiony bumper before I could reach him or even utter a gasp. Thank god for that bumper. He does stand on it for more height, but so far it hasn't provided him a step to exit the crib. My son will be one in a few days, and this crib set has served him well. Since the bumper comes in four pieces, one for each side of the crib, I hope that I will be able to use at least part of it when he moves to a toddler bed--maybe at the head so he doesn't crash. My son is a wild sleeper and I sleep much better knowing that his sweet little head is protected.

I also love the embroidery on this product, it is much prettier in real life than in the photos on the company website. The quilt has beautiful soft fabric on the underside. I kept him in sleep sacs all winter for safety, but I plan on using the quilt next winter, and think that it will be very cozy for him. I've never washed the quilt since we don't use it yet, but I hope that it will wash easily, unlike the experiences reported by some other reviewers.

The fact that there is only elastic at the corners of the sheet, instead of all around the sides, has not been a problem for me. I'm not sure why it would be, but other people seem to dislike this feature.

Love this product.

Looks nice but not practical, April 4, 2006

Pros: Cute design; nice fabric
Cons: Unreliable turnaround; unable to order additional cribsheet

We purchased the Brandee Danielle King Ribbit bedding in July '05. (Purchased from Babyuniverse.com for $270). When we orginally placed the order, the bedding had been on back order (and just recently released). We received a "due date" for the bedding...I believe about 4-6 weeks from when we ordered. Well, that due date came and went...several times. I contacted Babyuniverse who told me that they received word from Brandee Danielle that they were backed up with receiving some fabric and that it would be in soon. Again, the delivery date was missed. I again received notice from Babyuniverse that they (Brandee Danielle) were experiencing some problems with the fabric coming in, etc., and given a new due date. Needless to say we FINALLY got the bedding...a long time after our original delivery date had passed. I fault Brandee Danielle on this (not Babyuniverse as they are just a distributor).

Once we received the bedding, I was both pleased and disappointed. The design and sewmanship is very nice...the pictures did it justice. However, the quilt is almost too nice to realistically use with a baby. Due to safety, we do not use our quilt in the bed, and had planned on using it as a floor blanket. But once I read that it was spot clean only, that option didn't even seem like a good use...as anyone with a drooling baby (who occassionally spits up) knows. So it's now become more of a decorative piece in the nursery.

Also, the bumper pads aren't good to use. They are made well, but are just way too thick to place in a crib. They definitely would fit the description of "pillow like bumper pads" . Therefore, we only had the bumper pads on the crib BEFORE the baby was actually placed in the crib.

I wanted to order additional cribsheets to match, but unfortunately have been unable to find any. I have only found the sheets available in the 4-piece set. Again, not practical...I am needing to change the sheets 2-3x a week (there's that drooling baby again). Very disappointed in this. However, since I am not using the quilt or bumper pads, I just bought sheets that match the baby's room, and don't have to match the "bedding theme". And note that the crib sheets DO NOT have elastic all the way around.

I wouldn't recommend Brandee Danielle bedding at this stage...looks pretty, but not practical for real-world use.

Bumpers have been updated and I feel cheated, January 1, 2007

Pros: Design and fabrics are great
Cons: The bumpers!

I bought African Plains about 9 months ago. Got it online from whatever was the cheapest place on Froogle. Today at Buy Buy Baby, we noticed that half the stock has the 4 piece plush pillow style bumpers and the other half is a new 1 piece thin style that appear to be safer.

Should they offer a recall? Or maybe offer to existing owners a reduced price on the updated bumpers?

Nice pattern, good quality but bumper too plush, October 17, 2006

Pros: Great patterns, nice quality, good price, fine turnaround
Cons: Bumper is too plush - dangerous for standing babies

I paid under $200 for the whole set (blanket, sheet, bumper) at babysupermall.com

It's a very nice set and when baby was newborn, it was great. It's held up very well through many many washings.

What I don't like is how plush the bumpers are. They're about 3 inches thick, like big pillows on all 4 corners of the crib. That doesn't leave much space for bigger baby to roll around - and it's dangerous when baby is bigger (standing) as acts as launching pad for jumping out of crib!

BD baby is much different than Brandee Danielle, December 22, 2005

Pros: Design was adorable
Cons: workmanship and quality

I ordered what I thought was a Brandee Danielle baby bedding set called BABY BEE. I loved it online and looked to see it in person in a store, but I could not find it. Since I had seen other Brandee Danielle products in specialty stores, I felt that the quality would be good, so I was not worried. I eventually ordered online through The Baby Depot from Burlington Coat Factory for $199.99. The bedding set came quickly, but what a difference from the Brandee Danielle sets I had seen. It was in a bag labeled BD baby and there was loose threads everywhere and black threads that could be seen under the yellow fabric. The overall workmanship and quality was horrible. I returned it and I am still waiting 6 weeks later to get my money back. When I have called Burlington Coat Factory to ask about my money, I have gotten disconnected at least ten times.
