Pros:

After an unsuccessful experience with the Sony Baby Call, we purchased the Philips monitor on the recommendation of a neighbor. We live in a 100+ year old townhouse in an urban setting and were frustrated by the Sony's static-y reception and limited range of use (we could not even take the Sony as far as our kitchen before it was "out of range").
The Philips remedies both of those problems--we have heard no static when using our cordless phone and it also seems to coexist peacefully with our wireless internet. The monitor's range is also somewhat amazing, compared with the Sony--the range in our neighborhood is more than 200 feet (I got it a half-block away from the house on a test run before it started to buzz).
One feature that is very handy is a "walkie-talkie" or intercom feature whereby you can push a button to talk to your child (or spouse who is in the room with the child). The microphone sensitivity is also adjustable, so you can determine how much ambient noise in the room you want to pick up with the monitor.
The Philips monitor also offers other nice, but unnecessary bells and whistles--you can remotely play 5 lullabies for your child and also activate a night light.
Obviously, if you can find a monitor for your house that functions well and costs less than $200, you should go for it. We have also been underwhelmed by the battery life of the monitor, although the batteries are rechargeable so you do not have to invest in countless disposable batteries.

Our receiver units never properly charged and never worked more than a few minutes. We learned from extensive web reading that there is a problem with several of the receiver units and/or the charging bases -- defects. Philips customer service was absolutely no help -- told us to replace batteries. When we did and the units still did not work, Philips customer service said we would hear from a higher tier of tech support but no contact was forthcoming. After waiting for several days, we returned our unit to the vendor but had to pay a restocking fee to the on-line vendor, even though we hope it was not "restocked." We lost about $40 on the restocking fee and shipping. If you buy this, be sure to buy it locally from a store and not from the web so you can return it if there is a problem. We were deeply disappointed, particularly since there are known problems with the units and customer service did not address it right away -- or at all.
