We received the monitors as a shower gift for approx. 52.99 from BRU. Having two monitors is great--we never have to track them down; one is always in our bedroom, the other downstairs. Being both rechargeable battery and electric-powered, they are very portable but we don't waste money on batteries. The reception is good over a decent distance--we can go across the courtyard from our house and it still works--and we've not had any problems with interference with other technology items in our home, even the wireless internet. We also live in a townhouse, and we've not had problems with hearing our neighbors or interference with their electronic and wireless devices. The biggest drawbacks to this monitor are that is very sensitive to every noise. The base up in the baby's room picks up the tv downstairs! As first time parents, hearing every breath and whimper our daughter makes kept us from sleeping. We found that the lowest volume possible works alright at night (between notches 1 and 2)--it's loud enough to hear when she really needs us, but it doesn't keep us up or wake us up when she's just readjusting in the night. The light indicators on the front also help at night to know whether she is really making noise, considering new parents are light sleepers by nature. One problem we've had is with the power switch. Sometimes the monitors won't come on, even though they're fully charged or plugged in. There's no trick to getting it to work again except turning it off and on until it works. I haven't contacted Fisher Price about it, but if it starts to happen more frequently I'll probably get a replacement. All in all, I'm pleased with how it works. I've heard horror stories about problems with other electronic devices, especially in townhouses and condos. We found one channel of the many it has that works and haven't had to change it once since our daughter was born 3 months ago.
