Our perfect travel and mall stroller!, June 11, 2005

Pros: lightweight, shoulder strap, 5 pt harness, taller handles
Cons: pricey, no sunshade, tips, better on smooth surfaces

A family vacation induced us to go looking for a lightweight umbella stroller for travelling with our (then) 9-month-old. We had some reservations about paying close to $100 for the Maclaren Volo which didn't include any shade cover (must be purchased separately), however, this stroller has proved to be one of our most used and recommended purchases ever!

The fold is easy and quick and at only 8 lbs, it's a dream to carry with the shoulder strap when necessary. This stroller pushes beautifully with one hand and turns on a dime, while the taller handles make my 6'3" husband happy to take a turn. The Volo does not recline, so may only be used with children 6 mos and older who sit up well. The basket is small but easily accessible. Please note that it also will tip if you attempt to hang anything off the handles that isn't balanced by the weight of your child.

It is so easy to use, that we keep our Volo folded in the trunk of our car at all times for mall crawls, and we would never think of travelling without it! When travelling by air, we just throw our carry-on bag in it, top with our child's upsidedown carseat and bungee it all together until we get to the plane and the Volo is quickly folded and gate checked to be retrieved at flight's end.

[NOTE: It appears that the new Maclaren Volos now come with hoods and are slightly heavier at 9.2 lbs.]

Love this stroller -- the only one left at our house, April 9, 2007

Pros: light weight, but sturdy, great for big kids too
Cons: can be tippy, no recline, no parent tray

We are down to one stroller at our house and it's a Mac Volo. I sold all the others because we simply weren't using them. The Volo is all we need! I bought the Volo when my youngest was 18 months old for a trip to Disney where I would be going to the parks by myself with my two boys while DH was at a conference. I needed something that was lightweight (to be taken on Disney transportation) and I could carry while still having hands free to hold on to the kids. I wasn't worried about the recline because my youngest never napped in the stroller (or really anywhere else for that matter). However, he did nap in the Volo at Disney and the lack of recline didn't seem to bother him one bit.

The Volo was honestly the best $100 I have ever spent on a stroller. My youngest is now almost 4 and our Volo has been used a whole lot and is still going. It is still in great shape, although the trim on the black hood is a little faded from the sun.

Even my very tall (110% for height) older son could ride in the Volo comfortably until he was around 6 years old. He's almost 7 now and is just too tall and heavy. My older son rode in the Volo many times before he got to big and the stroller has held up very well. It was easy to push and steer, even with a child on the high end of the weight scale riding.

The Volo does have several drawbacks. The biggest is probably that it can easily tip over if you hang bags from the handle bars and the child gets out of the stroller. I have never had a problem with tipping (thank goodness) with a child in the stroller, but now that my kids are older they like to get out of the stroller at random. This is a common problem with light weight umbrella type strollers, however, and not a flaw with the Volo itself.

The Volo does not recline, but I bought it knowing this and it has not been a problem for us.

There is no parent tray or more importantly, place to put my keys, cel phone and water bottle. I did purchase the Mac organizer that hangs from the back (around $20) and this has solved most of the problem, but it was an added cost. This organizer is nice because unlike the under seat basket, it does not have to be emptied when the stroller is folded.

Pros: This stroller is fool proof
Cons: The seat is a little stiff

I like simple, modern, clean design, so the Volo is right up my alley. I so want to love my plush strollers like the Bugaboo (and I do, I really do), but I am always going back to the Volo. It opens and closes in a second, nothing complicated about it. It pushes well with 20 pounds or 40 pounds, and you can hose it off after a long day at Disney where more things than you care to admit become baked onto the mesh seat! I think the Volo is the perfect stroller for those older two year olds, three year olds and 4 year olds that sometimes want to ride, but more often do not. Why? Because you can carry this thing anywhere, and store it anywhere, so it is just easy to have. It is worth the extra money over the $20 umbrella strollers because of how easy it is to push. The biggest con is that I see it misused so often, with a tiny little baby in it all slumped over. Maclaren says 6 months and up, but this is definitely better for one year and up. I liked this better than the Silver Cross Micro because I think that it does a better job being what it is. A quick errands stroller that pushes well and looks good.

Best stroller for traveling, March 11, 2006

Pros: Handle height, easy steering, 8.5 pounds, compact folding
Cons: no cup holder, skimpy basket, no recline

I found this stroller at a local TJ Maxx store for $60.00. My daughter was 12 months old when I purchased it. We have a number of strollers including peg perego, Phil and Ted's, and Combi. The volo has been my favorite for use with a toddler because it is so light and easy to steer.

Pros: This stoller weighs only 8.5 pounds and has a strap for carrying (which comes in handy at the airport). The handles are tall so neither myself nor my 6'1" husband kick the back of the stroller like we do with the Combi and Peg Perego.

The steering is fabulous with or without a child in the stroller and this stroller is very compact when folded. It will fit into any trunk or small space for storage.

My daughter, now two, enjoys climbing in and out by herself and has never complained about having to ride in this stroller.

Cons: This stroller is very basic. No sun shade, cup holders or padding. A small to medium sized diaper bag will fit in the storage basket. The straps are not very height adjustable. You can purchase a Mac Claren stroller bag to attach to the back but I have found that this accessory is only good for bottles or bottled water. If you put your purse in the accessory bag the stroller is likely to tip over when empty. The lack of a cup holder has not been too bad for me. The steering is so easy I can use one hand for my Latte and one to steer the stoller.

I really love this umbrella stroller, September 28, 2007

Pros: It is lightweight and sturdy
Cons: Sun visor gets stained when folded (wheels rub on it)

We had a cheap umbrella stroller and it did not have a sun shade and it did not manuever well. We looked for other options and found Maclaren's Volo stroller. What a beautiful thing.

Sure it is expensive at $100, but it is worth it. I think the value is there.

The only complaint I have is that the sun visor gets dirty from the wheels rubbing against it when it is folled. I have emailed Maclaren twive in the past 2 months and have never heard from them. This worries me because I wonder if they would respond to my email if I had an important question or issue. This is something to consider when purchasing from this company.
