Pros:
NOTHING!
Cons:
Never getting my furniture
|
|
I tried to purchase the Baby Cache Crib and dresser online, and it has been the most exhausting experience I've ever had with a store. I ordered the furniture in early October with an Estimated ship date of 2 weeks. Note, One main reason bought the furniture was because it had such a great ship date. Well, after 2 weeks they delayed the shipment for two more weeks, without even letting me know. I had to call customer service (who never has direct contact with the supplier/manufacture r) to find out where my furniture was. All they could tell me was that it was delayed, but it would Definately ship in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later, still no furniture, delayed another 3 weeks. Anyways, after 3 more weeks I got a notice that the manufacturer no longer makes this crib and my order was automatically cancelled. 2 days later I got a JCPenny catalog/magazine in the mail with the exact same crib in it still for sale. (??)I was givin such a runaround for this furniture, I wish there was better communication b/w the customer service dept. at JCPenny and the manufacturer so I could have bought something else somewhere else w/o having to wait 7 weeks. I would NEVER buy anything from JCPenny again, PLEASE stay away if you can.

Pros:
The dresser comes already assembled and is gorgeous
Cons:
The hutch comes in peices, the assembly instructions are hidden and the back is less than desirable
|
|
I bought the Bella dresser and hutch from JCPenny online. The dresser comes already assembled and is beautiful. However, when my husband was assembling the hutch portion we couldn't find the instructions anywhere and assumed we must have thrown them away by accident. We found the instructions taped to the inside of some folded cardboards after almost all the assembly was done (we found some online instructions to follow). The backing to the hutch is flimsy and if tape or paper gets stuck in the folds of it, it shows through very easily.I would recommend the dresser and leave the hutch with JCPenny's.

Pros:
Crib is nice and solid. Inexpensive.
Cons:
Dressers not 100% solid wood. Some pressboard
|
|
We were in a hurry to find a crib since Baby Depot gave us incorrect info on stock of a crib. So I checked JCPenney. We found a crib we liked, Heirloom Collection by Rockland in Cherry (on sale about $370), and it was on sale. We also had a coupon code for free shipping to the store. We also ordered the changer and dresser ($280 each). We ordered it on a Sunday, I think it was in the store by Wed or Thursday. Super fast shipment!! Had to rent a truck to bring it home, since the boxes were big, but it was still cheaper than shipping would have been.
Got it home, started putting it together. A side from the changing table was damaged, so we called customer service. They said they would send out a replacement part right away. Great!! NO hassles at all. We put the crib together. It's great quality. Instructions were a bit hard to understand, but we figured it out. Very solid. The dresser was partially made of pressboard which I wasn't happy about, but the top and bottom were solid wood. The drawers were also a bit cheap feeling, but for the price I guess I can't complain. It will do its job for a few years. But it does look very nice.We received the replacement piece about a week and a half/ two weeks after we called. Not bad at all. So crib- 'A'
dresser- 'B'
average- 'A-' since we had good customer service.

Pros:
Nothing
Cons:
Cheap, awful quality furniture, poor delivery policy -- not a good experience
|
|
When I purchased baby furniture for my older son, we went with higher-end pieces. We figured: why buy "baby" furniture. Let's buy pieces that will last. We bought Pali, Rumbletuff and Dutalier. No disappointments there! Excellent choices. Now, with twin sons on the way, we tried much harder bargain shop. We read that JC Penney had good furniture at reasonable prices.Good furniture??? Please! The furniture was hideous. So cheaply constructed that certain pieces were no thicker than construction paper. We were missing parts. Others weren't manufactured properly so they didn't align and go together. But let's start from the beginning. You can only order from the catalogue, so there's no "touching it" in advance. That made me nervous, and I should have just stopped there. Then, they delivered the furniture...but only to the doorstep. One of the boxes was 120 lbs! How was my husband supposed to get that upstairs? A couple pieces were backordered. One day, I came home to two large boxes on my doorstep. I called to ask why I wasn't alerted to the delivery. (It was more than a month prior to the estimate delivery date.) They said they didn't alert customers when backordered items shipped. What if I'd have been out of town? The next day it poured rain. What if that had happened the day before (delivery day)? The furniture would have been ruined. Once we realized the low quality we were dealing with, we boxed things back up and called JC Penney. They told us we had to transport the furniture to a store. Seriously? 300+ pounds of furniture? It took my husband two trips in one seriously jammed SUV and a very kind neighbor to help out. Again, what if we didn't have an SUV, or a neighbor who could assist? What a horrible policy. Then, of course, we lost the $200 that we'd paid in shipping. What a disaster! So what was our next step? Off to the same store where my older son's furniture came from. We hit the clearance room and found a great Munire dresser and nightstand, and a Million Dollar Baby crib...for just a bit more than we'd spent on the Penney's furniture.Stay away from the JC Penney nursery furniture. I've never seen such poorly manufactured furniture, and it added a level of stress that no parents-to-be need.

Pros:
Look, sturdiness, overall quality for price
Cons:
Didn't get all parts in original shipment
|
|
We recently ordered the Olivia convertible crib in cherry from JC Penney. Overall, we're very happy with the crib, though we did have a few problems. We were leary of ordering problems based on the Baby Bargains book, but we ordered the crib in month 6, so we figured we had plenty of time to deal with any problems. We ordered the crib on May 11th; it was backordered until June 8th, but it arrived on June 1st. We picked it up on June 6th, took it home and began assembling. Unfortunately, the box contained two left front posts (instead of one left and one right). I called customer service and they processed my request for the correct part, informing me that shipment would take 1-2 weeks. The missing part arrived sometime between June 15th and June 27th (we were on vacation). When we returned home on June 28th, we promptly completed assembly of the crib. Overall, it took about an hour to assemble.Once assembled, the crib looked great. It is very sturdy and of good quality for the price. I would definitely recommend this crib, as long as you have time to deal with any delivery/assembly problems (i.e. don't buy a JC Penney crib in your 8th month!).
