Pros:
appearance, quality, ease of use
Cons:
customer service, missing parts
|
|
We ordered Child Craft's Farmhouse crib ($350) from Buy Buy Baby in NY. We loved the appearance, price, and quality of materials. Unfortunately, when we tried to put it together we discovered missing and incorrect hardware. We called customer service who told us it would be another 6-8 weeks to ship the things we needed (proper sized screws and metal inserts to fit the pre-drilled holes). Finding this to be totally unacceptable, we contacted Buy Buy Baby who immediately called Child Craft and discussed the situation with them. Child Craft sent the pieces out and we received them in 4 days. Once we had the correct parts the crib went together very, very easily. While I wouldn't tell people to avoid Child Craft, I would recommend them to make their purchase form Buy Buy Baby. They have been fantastic to deal with and I look forward to giving them more business as our baby grows.

Pros:
The one piece I have is beautiful!
Cons:
Still do not have it, 13 weeks later!

I ordered 3 pieces of the Legacy Bergen County line on March 24, 2006. I ordered the crib, combo unit, and 5 drawer dresser through a local retailer, Baby Village, in Tampa, Fl. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks for all three pieces to arrive. The crib arrived at 9 weeks but as of, July 3rd, I still do not have the other 2 pieces. The combo unit is supposed to be delivered on July 4th but the dresser has not even been shipped according to the retailer. The retailer has been difficult to work with and unwilling to contact Legacy unless I push them to. I have tried to contact Legacy myself but other phone number, (812) 883-3111, is out of service. I have also emailed them but have not received a reply. I would not order from them again. The head ache and stress alone are not worth it! I had hoped to order the hutch eventually but have decided not to unless I get an appropriate response from Legacy.

It "looked" nice and was a good price.
Cons:
The actual quality of the crib.

We purchased a Legacy crib by ChildCraft a few months before our daughter was born. Much of our decision was based on the great review we had read in the Baby Bargains book. The crib was very difficult to assemble, the instructions hard to understand, but we figured it was bc we were first time parents. When it was time to lower the mattress the very first time the real problems started. We had tightened the screws exactly to the specifications in the instructions and when we went to move the mattress down the screw came out along with the metal thread that is supposed to stay in the wood. We were able to get the screws out of the threads but were disappointed that we would not be able to raise the crib for another baby. We contacted ChildCraft who sent us new threads and a tool to put them in. Unfortunately, they were the wrong size for both the hole where they needed to go in and the screws that we had for the crib. This was very disappointing especially when we were told they didn't have anything else they could send us. The same thing happened when we tried to lower the mattress to the lowest level. This time when we contacted ChildCraft (who only has a long distance number) we got the runaround for quite a while. After a number of calls, and what seemed like hours of waiting on hold, they finally decided to send up new end pieces. We had to move our second crib from the grandparents house to ours so that we had a crib to use. It took 8 weeks for the new end pieces to arrive and when they finally did they were damaged (and not from shipping) and the paint was very shoddily applied and chipping already as soon as we opened the package. I understand that part of what took so long was that they had a flood at their warehouse but the pieces we received were not acceptable. When I called Childcraft and explained the new issue they were not helpful at all. By this point we were pretty upset. We decided to contact our local store who was WONDERFUL! The agreed to give us a full 100% refund on the crib which we used toward buying a Serenity Crib by Baby's Dream that we love. It has been thru a move and converted from crib to toddler bed to full size bed which is what our now 3 year old is sleeping in. I make sure to tell everyone I know having a baby to stay away from Childcraft.

Pros:
Beautiful design, very sturdy
Cons:
Crib drawer can't hold much
|
|
We bought the Farmhouse crib with drawer and Farmhouse double dresser and bookcase in the Pine Cone finish back in 2006 for our first baby. We absolutely love it! We have gotten so many compliments on how good her bedroom furniture looks. The finish is very rich and shows the wood grain so nicely. The crib is made of solid wood and is very sturdy. We opted for the conventional crib instead of the convertible because we loved the simple design and the price..$349!. It converts to a toddler bed. We purchased the toddler guard rail to convert it later (toddler rail was $59). The only minor drawback would be the crib drawer, it is not made to hold much more than sheets and blankets but it works! I think the dresser and bookcase are made of both solid wood and veneers. The construction seems really solid, drawers are big (they have the dovetail). The bookcase is SO roomy, we bought Pottery Barn Sabrina baskets to go on the shelves, it looks great and is so practical to store all the toys etc, and still have room for books and stuffed animals (how many stuffed animals can one child have?!this is crazy). We put a changing pad on the dresser and use it as the changer. I wish now that we would have bought the dressing kit that is offered to go on top, I think it would be safer. Now that my daughter is moving more sometimes the pad shifts around so I would recommend to buy the dressing kit. The dresser offers plenty of room for all her clothes. I love the smaller drawers on top, perfect for socks and smaller items that would get lost in the large bottom drawers. The bottom line is that we've had the furniture for a year and it has held up to our expectations.

Pros:
We got our money back quickly
Cons:
Cannot contact the company to see if they ever intend on reopening and resuming taking orders
|

My husband and I placed an order with Child Craft Legacy back in early July. We ordered three pieces from the Kensington collection, because it was rated so highly by Consumer Reports, and we liked the looks of it. My sister also has Child Craft Legacy collections for both of her children, and it holds up well and looks fantastic. We were notified right about the time that the furniture was supposed to come in that the company was shutting down for an indefinite period of time. We could either wait it out and see if they'd reopen and fulfill our order (for which we'd already paid,) or we'd have to go with another company. My husband and I tried contacting the company ourselves several times, but could never reach anyone, and no one would return the messages we'd left. We decided not to risk it, and we pulled our order. Thankfully, our money was refunded almost immediately. We've since placed an order with another company (Bonavita), and have already received the furniture and have it set up and ready for baby's arrival.Do yourself a favor and don't buy Child Craft's leftover in-store inventory. The company has shut down, and you'll not be able to get a hold of them if you have any problems.
