Bought this mattress on sale on Babycatalog.com based on the Baby Bargains review. It's firms and so easy to lift. I wish my mattress was this easy to handle. It also came with a free waterproof mattress pad as part of an online special. I got it for $99, which I think is lower than a lot of places.

We bought this mattress based on the recommendation of our sales clerk the day we bought our crib and changing table. She told us it was top of the line and was supposed to be recommended for SIDS. We purchased our mattress for $189.00 and I have not regretted it yet. Our baby sleeps all night and wonderfully on this mattress and has since the day we brought him home. In my opinion, this is one of the most important pieces you will purchase for your baby. The cost may be high, but it is worth it.

We bought the Colgate Classica foam crib mattress based on the reviews in the Baby Bargains 5th Edition. I had been looking for the cheaper version at Target, but never saw one, so when D-day approached, I spent the $90 and had my mattress. DS slept on it from the day he came home from the hospital, and he has always been a great sleeper. I don't know if it's because of the mattress, but who knows?Things I really love:
1. It's really lightweight - I can lift it over my head, it's that light, and changing the sheets is no problem.
2. It's foam, and I think this causes it warms up to body heat better than a spring mattress would. I recently got a foam mattress topper, and it's tons warmer than just the spring mattress I had before.
3. It's really firm, but has some give - DS flops around on it, which he wouldn't do it was really hard.This I don't really like:
Just the cover material. It's embossed vinyl, and I would've liked for it to be fabric of some kind. I don't know anyone who didn't use a waterproof mattress pad on their crib mattress, so why bother with the vinyl when it could've been something breathable and warm, as opposed to cold and clammy?We will be using this crib mattress for any children we have in the future - it has held up for two years, and I'm glad we have it and not something else.

The foam mattress is lightweight, but the dual sides mattress, which is supposed to have a softer side for toddlers and a firmer side for infants, is rock hard on both sides. Our baby was restless until we put a mattress pad down to cushion the surface. While infants shouldn't be on a too soft surface for SIDS, this mattress was the borderline abusive!

After much research, I settled on this mattress from Colgate Mattress. I paid about 150 from greatbeginnings.com and thought that was a fair value for the mattress. I am so happy that it is lightweight and easy to change. I cover the mattress with a mattress pad and feel it only helps my baby sleep. For what it is worth, I have told a few friends about this mattress and they purchased it as well. I hope this helps. Amy
