Pros: Stylish crib at a reasonable price
Cons: It's made of pine

This review is for the Baby's Dream Serenity crib which we purchased for around $350 from Embdin's/USA Baby in Grand Rapids, Mich. We actually may have paid around $325, because we also purchased a Baby's Dream dresser/changer combo unit at the same time and received a multi-purchase discount. The Serenity is a convertible crib, but to convert it to a full bed, you need to purchase rails, which were about $100 if I remember correctly -- they do not come with the crib, so that's something to keep in mind/budget for if you're thinking about eventually using the crib walls as a full sized bed.

Let me just say that I love the Serenity crib. The style and details (the front legs are curved with a carved circle detail) have won a lot of compliments from visitors to our house, and it's what first attracted my attention when I saw this crib in person. I ordered this crib in an antique white finish, and it's a pretty creamy white - at first, I didn't like the finish, but I've since come to love it. I ordered a bedside table in antique white from Land of Nod, and it matches my crib perfectly, so the finish does seem to be pretty universal. I've also seen the crib in black and cherry; both finishes were gorgeous.

The crib is very sturdy, but it's not so heavy that I can't slide it away from the wall to secure a bumper, change sheets, etc. The sides on this crib are stationary. I'm 5'7" and I can manage to bend over and kiss my five month old daughter goodnight, but the mattress is still at it's highest level -- I don't know if I'll be able to do that when we lower the mattress. I think the stationary sides add to the stability of the crib, but if you're on the petite side, you may want to "play" with the crib in the store before purchasing. Also, this crib is made of pine as opposed to hardwoods. If you have a chewer, the softer wood could gather some imprints, I suppose, but I really haven't come to that stage yet, so I can't comment on that.

I was a tad worried about ordering from Baby's Dream based on a review in an earlier version of Baby Bargains (I believe their rating in the latest edition has improved greatly). We ordered our crib in late October last year, and we were told to expect it in mid-January. It arrived the week after Christmas in perfect condition, so our experience ordering from Baby's Dream was very positive. The crib was also very easy to put together -- my husband and I had no problems following the instructions.

When I first started looking at cribs, I looked at higher end Italian lines, but I've been incredibly happy with the Serenity, and I would definitely repurchase if I had to do it all over again.
