Land of Nod complaint

A reader sends in this story on a Land of Nod crib order:

Dear Denise and Alan,

As a very satisfied reader of your bridal bargains book, I have now moved on to Baby Bargains as I am expecting my first child. I wanted to write to you about my recent experiences with buying a crib from the Land of Nod. I ordered the "curvy convertible crib" from them in white app 2 months ago. The crib took about 3 weeks to arrive and upon opening it to get down to the fun business of assembly, my husband and I were shocked to see that among other imperfections one entire side piece of the crib was cracked straight through the beadboarding. It was almost completely in half. To their credit Land of Nod was very accomodating when I called, they sent out a new crib straight away and arranged for pick up of the first crib. Today I received my replacement and was excited again to open it and get started on the nursery. As soon as I took the first piece out of the box I could see that there is a huge splintering of the wood down the side of one of the crib slats, as well as multiple very deep scratches over the slats on the front of the crib. Although Land of Nod has been fairly accomodating, and is likely going to send someone to repair the crib in our home, I feel that people should be alerted to this problem. Clearly this in not a one time occurrence and I don't know whether to blame the shipper or the company itself. Regardless, if I spend $500 on a crib, I do not expect to receive it with cracked wood, and this is over multiple areas on two different cribs. I do not yet know how this problem will be resolved, and if I didn't love the look of this crib so much, I would just send it back at this point and ask for a refund. I wanted to email you about this because there is no specific place to review the product on the website, and I want others to be aware that unless they live in or near Chicago, it may not be worth the inconvenience to order baby furniture from this company.

Thanks for all your advice and best of luck,

Dana M.
