Pet gate = Baby gate less $20

As readers of our book know, we like to point out strange but true things about baby products. Such as the SAME safety gates are sold in both baby stores and pet stores---yet the pet stores don't mark them up as much. Reader Colleen D. of Osceola, IN says she found a $20 savings by shopping a pet store web site:

Dear Baby Bargains:
I had to write and tell you about a bargain I found on baby safety gates. I have referenced your Baby Bargains and Bridal Bargains book in the past three years as I have gotten married and pregnant. I have learned from your books to be a smart consumer and research purchases. Well, it is now time to purchase a safety gate for our 10-month old baby to protect him from taking a tumble down the stairs. I referenced your book and saw that you recommend the Kidco line of safety gates. I found the Elongate Extra Wide Safety Gate at Petsmart.com for $69.99. This is $20 cheaper than what Babycenter.com was charging for it. Babycenter.com was selling the same gate that Petsmart was selling for $89.96 and this was on sale from Babycenter's regular price of $99.95!. I called the Kidco company's customer service department to verify that the Pet places sell the same type of Kidco gates that the Baby places sell online. They assured me that they did and that they just recommend retail prices to their retailers and it is up to them to set the price. I also verified that both the Kidco Model #'s were the same for the Kidco Elongate at Babycenter.com and Petsmart. I guess baby places mark up the price more than some of the pet places.
